Minimalist Environmental Moody Introspective
OBJECTIVE
This project included the task of researching an architect and promoting a hypothetical exhibit of their work. The goal was to refine and expand my process and design prowess in a complex system that reflected yet did not overshadow the architects work. APPROACH
Peter Zumthor’s work is a testament to the power of simple materials. For him and his architecture, this was often wood or concrete. As a graphic designer, the simplest material available to me is paper. Inspired by Zumthor’s use of materials, I took printer paper and crafted a system that celebrated his body of work while hinting at the beauty of simple shapes and the poetry of light.

Artisanal Natural Contemporary High End
OBJECTIVE
The primary object of the project was to create a visual system for a fine dining and contemporary fusion restaurant that is considerate of the full branding experience, including interior atmosphere. The secondary objective was to seamlessly and subtly integrate technology to support the brand experience without distracting from the atmosphere of the establishment. APPROACH
The experience one has in a restaurant has to continually adapt to technology systems and features. However, the personalization and human interaction is a highly valued aspect of the guest experience, especially in contemporary dining restaurants. I leaned into minimalist typography, soft colors, and handmade paper to allow the branding to feel high-end and artisanal while also integrating the system into a mobile experience to increase efficiency.

Collectible Fun Approachable Nostalgic
OBJECTIVE
Since 1988, Scattergories has been a family favorite board game. The box design, however, only added to the clutter of the infamous overstuffed board game cabinet. This project takes advantage of the opportunity to create a collector’s version of this classic game. APPROACH
Challenged to design a coffee-table-worthy display piece, I redesigned the box and its content with a geometric and colorful design that included illustrative nods to the past. Breaking from the conventional rectangular design of the box, the oval wood box contrasts with the colorful and visually complex designs.

OBJECTIVE
This project’s purpose is to create an app that can help make contemporary art galleries more approachable and appealing. Through my research, I found that an overwhelming amount of people view contemporary galleries as intimidating. This app aims to lessen that intimidation. APPROACH
I believe that approachable information leads to confidence, which leads to comfortability, which leads to participation. Artwell’s main feature is a survey that helps users understand their preferences surrounding contemporary art. It then churns out topics, local galleries and walking tours that act as pathways for people to participate in art.

INTRIGUE & CURIOSIT Y
Amber is out for a walk in the city and a small, contemporary gallery catches her eye. She’s curious and intrigued by the art in the windows. She’s drawn to the aesthetics of the pieces but doesn’t know anything about the gallery or art.
FEAR SETS IN
She starts to over think if she’s “allowed” to go into the gallery. She becomes self-conscious of her lack of knowledge on the subject of art. She has her child with her and thinks she’ll be scoffed for bringing her child inside. A sense of intimidation sets over her and she walks past the gallery.
LEARNING
Once home, she thinks back to the gallery she walked by. She opens the app and searches for the gallery. She finds the gallery profile and reads through the reviews, overview, and exhibit synopsis.

REASSURANCE
After reading about the gallery, her intimidation starts to fade. She reads that the staff are friendly, children are welcome, and that the art is talking about current issues that she’s interested in.
CONFIDENCE
She now feels confident and excited about the gallery. She’s gained context about the art and is excited to bring her child with her knowing that the staff are friendly.
GALLERY VISIT
The next weekend, she visits the gallery and brings her child. She has enough context and information to “get” the art and also feels confident to ask the staff more questions. She relays the information to her child while experiencing art she otherwise would never have seen. She leaves satisfied that she learned something new and has a new perspective on a topic she was interested in.
EXPERIENCE SHARING
Once home, she posts about her experience to social media. She also opens to app and leaves a review and adds her opinion to a discussion forum.

I refreshed Greenbars packaging with a colorful and modern feel that reflected the relaxed Southern California mood already present in their current bran-ding. The label is double-sided, which creates a psychedelic look when seen through the vodka, similar to the dazzling effects of sunshine on the ocean or a night of one too many drinks.

Obscure Artistic Mysterious Historic
OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this project was to create a robust visual system for a film festival. Taking some liberties afforded to students, I decided to tackle the idea of creating a visual system for a hypothetical museum event highlighting a lesser known art movement. The films created by surrealists artists were abundant in freedom, creatively, and a large dose of weirdness. APPROACH
Channeling my inner unorthodoxy and fueled by research, a complex design system was created that lived across print, environment, and digital design. The logo, graphics, and typography were crafted with inspiration from the history surrounding surrealism and the unpredictability of our subconscious. Custom photography was also captured to reflect the ambiguity and individualism of our dreams.

OBJECTIVE
The stories that have come from the Renaissance have been told many times over, to the point where some may start to find them boring. This book attempts to refresh old yet important stories by focusing on a new protagonist: the food. Want to know a recipe for Da Vinci’s favorite meal, chickpea soup? Curious to hear about the marchpane referenced in one of Shakespeare’s plays? This book highlights the recipes that sustained the characters of the stories we know so well. APPROACH
The cookbooks visuals take on a historic feeling with dark, warm, and muted colors that complement the luxurious typefaces used. Paintings were pulled from artist such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Pieter Brugal the Elder, and William Segar to enhance the historic aesthetic and give an accurate account of what food liked like in the early 15th century.

OBJECTIVE
As a quick exercise in designing a “how to”, I explored ideas for confidenceboosting resources for museum visitors. The final solution took two forms – an exhibit in the main gallery and a free booklet for visitors to use as they wander around the museum. APPROACH
The approach includes a gallery cube in the museum lobby or large gallery for visitors to immerse themselves with general tips and quotes from industry professionals. Then, booklets are provided for visitors to take and fill out as they find artworks that they want to have a deepened experience with. The visual direction is bold to capture attention, black and white to allow the art to shine, and simple to encourage approachability.

Tasked with an open-ended objective of crafting a book on any topic, I chose to explore my love of floral design. This book is a dedication to and celebration of the structural beauty in the artful form of Japanese floral arranging, ikebana.

Trying my hand at Ikebana, I crafted original arrangements and photographed them to accentuate the delicate details and minimal compositions. The soft photos were then paired with an equally delicate typeface, Mrs. Eaves, which shared the universal creative lessons found within ikebana.
