Ron McDonnell was the fourth generation of a family who were involved in the antique profession since the mid-19th Century. Together with his wife Doreen he built up a business with a truly international reputation. He was distinguished for his detailed knowledge and connoisseurship on an exceptionally wide range of subjects. He was a true expert on the art and furniture of Ireland, particularly of the 18th Century and many sought his advice and benefited from his generous scholarship. Ron was vitally interested in our Heritage and Cultural patrimony and in its preservation. He was a knowledgeable and generous patron helping many projects to fruition which will stand, both as a testimony to him and to the public benefit in perpetuity. While the dispersal of such a carefully formed collection is a sad occasion representing as it does the end of an era in the antique trade, it nevertheless brings to the market an opportunity to acquire an exceptional range of fine art and choice pieces which can now be enjoyed and valued by a new generation of dealers and collectors.
