Involve Youth Project A Day to Be Meet President Coming Home to You Micheal D. Higgins
A group of 9 young people took part in this years Show Racism the Red Card Competition by making a DVD and taking on the issue of discrimination. Over 10 weeks the young people wrote, directed and starred in their own DVD on this issue which is very relevant to them. As members of the Travelling community they have all dealt with discrimnation at some stage in their young lives. Their Dvd was all about seeing when does discrimination start and where does it come from. As part of this competition some of the entries were chosen to come to the Aviva Stadium on the 19th of April and display their projects and Involve Youth Project was one of these entries. Also on the day there
was an oppourtunity to meet with the President Micheal D. Higgins as he was giving the opening speech on the day. On his way up to the conference room the president stopped at the young peoples stand and spoke to them about their project. On two different occasions the president referred to the group and their project which was on honour to say the least. Although the group left the Stadium without a prize this year their spirits were high with a vow to be back next year for an award. Involve Youth Project would like to congratulate the group from Youthreach Progression in Navan for recieving a commendation for their Newsletter entry.

Surprise Visitor For Jacks Railway Bar!
Jacks Railway Bar had a surprise visitor on the Bank Holiday Sunday when none other than Keith Duffy of Boyzone and Corrie fame popped in. Keith chatted to the locals and posed to have his photo taken. He helped pull pints behind the bar (A trade learned no doubt from his time in The Rovers Return). He even provided musical entertainment when he sang with Nessa and Lisa. A great night was had by all.
The Rug Drop Shop Launched In Navan A super new service has just been launched. Customers can leave their soiled rugs in Fagans Furniture on Railway Street where Rainbow Cleaning Services will pick up, clean them and then drop them back a few days later to Fagans for collection by the customer. This means there is no need for a house or office call for the rugs and while there, people can browse the wares of Fagans Furniture.

Join the holyshow army!
To celebrate the renovation of Holyshow Tattoo Emporium, the Navan based tattoo shop are giving customers the opportunity to become part of the “Holyshow Army”. The concept of the “Holyshow Army” is the brain child of John, the owner. Customers can get a Skully tattoo, Skully being the mascot of Holyshow , to represent them, their hobbies, their career or anything they are into. Hence, becoming part of the “Holyshow Army”. When interviewed John explained that the idea came to him as a way of giving back to his regular customers, while at the same time offering new customers the chance to get custom inked at a reasonable rate. John who has a background in fine art and animation will hand draw, in consultation with the customer the Skully that best suits them. These are guaranteed one off pieces and unique to the individual. Because of the custom nature of John’s work, no-one else will have the same Skully tattoo. The Skullies are about 4 to 5 inches in height and can be in colour for €50 or black and grey for €30. Plus everyone who gets a Skully tattoo joins the “Holyshow Army” and will be entered into a monthly draw to win 4 hours of tattooing at Holyshow Tattoo. Since starting the “Hoyshow Army” concept about two weeks ago, the team have tattooed numerous Skullies. These include the Skully Breadman, the Skully Snake Enthusiast, and the Skully Stripper. This offer really is a winner and we suggest you get down quick and take the guys up of the chance of joining the “Holyshow Army” before it’s too late. Holyshow are also pleased to announce a new member of the team about to start work in the shop in the coming weeks. John has recently renovated the shop, creating a new work station in order to set it up for the new artist. Call into the shop or check out facebook or the website to see who it is and keep up with any further offers or developments with the “Holyshow Army”.

Epic Night as The Bogey Boys are back in Town! by Paul Holland
It may have been thirty years since the Bogey Boys last played Navan but the homecoming for Jimmy Smyth, his brother Tony and Doish Nagle, proved to be a rip-roaring success with a huge crowd welcoming the rock band back home. The Swan Lane venue at the Ardboyne Hotel in Navan, was the setting for an epic night with the band playing original songs from the 80s, along with classic blues numbers and Grand Slam songs written by Doish and Phil Lynott. The band that once had U2 as their support back in 1980, were back in Navan for the first of two rare local gigs! Right from the get-go, original songs such as “Rock na Roll Romance” “Obituary” and “Friday Night” were received with rapturous applause, with the legendary guitarist, Jimmy Smyth, in scintillating form. Tony Smyth on drums, well known around Navan for playing with Deep Six and the McGarry Brothers, was delighted with the response from the local fans on the night. “ We were a bit nervous beforehand as it means so much to play in front of your hometown audience. Jimmy has played at the Grammy’s and in front of huge crowds with Van Morrison etc and even he was a bit apprehensive beforehand !”Doish Nagle on bass guitar and vocals thoroughly enjoyed the gig and added “ It’s amazing for us to be able to fit back in and get such a reaction after such a long time”. Jimmy was delighted to meet so many of the fans and family afterwards and was in huge demand for photos & autographs after the show, with one fan producing the “Obituary” single from 1981 to be signed! Fans of the band were in great voice with Paul and Celine Logan from Dunshaughlin delighted that the band have reformed, even if it’s not on a full-time basis. Paul explains “ We used to follow the band around Dublin years ago so I couldn’t believe it when I saw the poster advertising that they were back!”Alicia Ennis from Kells described the band as “ simply world-class! I’m priviliged to be here for the homecoming gig”. Some of the many highlights on the night included the band’s version of “Parisienne Walkways”, “Dust My Broom” “She does it Right” “Military Man”,”Cocaine” and in the acoustic set, “Death of a Clown” & “The Cowboy Song”. Bernice Stewart from Navan was thrilled to see Jimmy’s nephew, Robbie Fitzgerald joining Jimmy to play guitar on stage for a few numbers and adds”The Bogey Boys are just awesome!”Thos Caffrey from Drogheda has seen the band many times but described the Swan Lane as” ideal for creating such an amazing atmosphere on the night”. Georgina Douglas from Trim knows the Smyths all her life and said the homecoming was “absolutely brilliant” while Julie Churchill was at the band’s last gig at Claremont Stadium in 1982 explains “The boys were really on fire! I can’t wait until the next gig in Tara na Rí on 26th May!” Limited number of tickets for The Bogey Boys at The Stables, Tara na Rí, Navan, 26th May €10 at e2music Navan or www.taranari.ie

Meath Food Showcase Bia na Mí
Thirty-five food producers and processors based in the county took part in the Showcase which showed consumers - as well as buyers from major supermarket chains and hotel groups - what Meath offers in terms of high quality food production and processing. The businesses that participated ranged from start-up enterprises to large scale producers who export worldwide. The event brought together producers, wouldbe producers, processors, consumers, advisory bodies as well as experts in business development and food production under the same roof on the same day. One of the exhibitors, Peter Whelan, Managing Director of The Whole Hoggs, Slane, county Meath said: ‘The food showcase is a great idea and a fantastic opportunity for us to bring our high quality products to a wide group of consumers and major buyers.’ The Whole Hoggs company specialises in farming free range pork to produce foodstuffs like sausages, black and white puddings and salami. Clonarn Clover is a small family owned and managed free range egg packing company based in Mullagh, near Kells. Margaret Farrelly, of Clonarn Clover, said: ‘We

are absolutely thrilled to take part in such a high profile, well organised event. It should help us to grow and develop our business.’ The Showcase took place from 3 pm to 9pm on Thursday May 3rd. Entry to the public was free and Kells Town Council confirmed that parking was free in the town from 2 pm on the day. Meath County Council supported Meath Food Showcase – Bia na Mí together with active involvement from Meath Partnership, Meath Tourism, Kells Chambers of Commerce and Bord Bia. During the event Meath Partnership announced details of their new support programme for start-up food processing enterprises, under the Leader Programme. The idea of organising Meath Food Showcase – Bia na Mí was first proposed by Shane McEntee TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Minister of State McEntee said: ‘I see the Showcase as only first in a number of steps. It is my ambition ultimately to develop Meath as a food processing and production hub as well as a destination for food tourism, with Kells having its own permanent Centre of Food Excellence.’

Hi Readers, I hope you are all keeping well and still reading my articles. Thank you for your questions and emails each month, I hope some of your queries are answered. This month I have had a few emails about certain issues so I am going to discuss them now. Q1: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EXERCISE WHEN PREGNANT: 1. Boost your energy 2. Sleep better 3. Reduce pregnancy discomfort 4. Prepare for childbirth 5. Reduce stress and lift your spirits 6. Improve your self-image 7. Get your body back faster after childbirth Here at Mystudio we have a pregnancy pilates and strength class. New course is starting may 11th at 7.45pm. Limited spaces available as I like to keep the class personal. To book call me on 086 2254030 Q2: Why when I exercise I get cold or flu like symptoms? There is a link between moderate and regular exercise boosting your immune system. However, there is also evidence that too much intense exercise can reduce immunity and may even make you sick. I notice this quite regularly with people who are just staring off exercising. The average adult has two to three upper respiratory infections each year. We are exposed to viruses all day long, but some people seem more susceptible to catching colds or the flu. The following factors have all been associated with impaired immune function and increased risk of catching colds: 1. Stress 2. Poor nutrition 3. Fatigue and lack of sleep 4. Cigarette smoking 5. Older age
6. Overtraining syndrome I would like to explain the last one “ overtraining syndrome”. Overtraining syndrome frequently occurs in athletes who are training for competition or a specific event and train beyond the body’s ability to recover. Athletes often exercise longer and harder so they can improve. But without adequate rest and recovery, these training regimens can backfire, and actually decrease performance. Conditioning requires a balance between overload and recovery. Too much overload and/or too little recovery may result in both physical and psychology symptoms of overtraining syndrome. Common Warning Signs and Symptoms of Overtraining Syndrome 1. Washed-out feeling, tired, drained, lack of energy 2. Mild leg soreness, general aches and pains 3. Pain in muscles and joints 4. Sudden drop in performance 5. Insomnia 6. Headaches 7. Decreased immunity (increased number of colds, and sore throats) 8. Decrease in training capacity / intensity 9. Moodiness and irritability 10. Depression 11. Loss of enthusiasm for the sport 12. Decreased appetite 13. Increased incidence of injuries. So make sure you take your rest days, eat clean to become lean….. Don’t have the idea cause I am training and working out I can eat what I like. That is by far from the truth cause we focus on the calories taken in and calories burned, not the nutritional value of food. Thank you for taking the time to read my article. I look forward to hearing from you via email or mobile my full website is www.mystudio.ie or 086 2254030. Yours in Health and fitness, Aoife Bradley
“You focus your mind to train your body and the changes that begin to take place impact your mind as well. Lower your scores and start winning competitions! Welcome back. This month’s article covers simple steps to improve your chipping to reduce your score by 5 to 10 shots per round. How is your chipping? Do you have difficulties in getting the ball on the green or close to the hole when you are around the green? How often do you get up& down in a round of golf, once or twice? If the answer is yes, I have some great tips for you to lower your score by at least 5 shots per round or more. Use different clubs for different shots around the green. Build a solid pre-shot routine (visualize the shot, do a practice swing, and pick a landing zone). Place a club on the ground near your feet to check if your alignment is correct. Check that the length and acceleration of your swing is proportional to the length of the shot (short swing for short chip). Try to get the ball regularly into a 3 feet zone? Very little wrists action is required, keep the left arm and club online as long as possible during the swing. Practice drill Put a tee onto the ground and leave the top protruding. Make a swing and try to cut off the head of the tee (great exercise to build up a descending strike and focus on a small target). Create a chipping course around the green with 5 different chips. Try to get up and down (using your sw, pw, 9 iron and putter). Place a club on the putting surface where you want the ball to land. Try to concentrate to hit just over the club
and adjust the club location if it’s too near or too far from the hole. Here are two new special offers for a 4 week programme. Individuals or groups are welcome. Programme Reduce your overall score with a better short game - Reduce your score by 5 shots per round or more with a better putting, chipping, bunker play and pitching (get up&down more often, learn the technique and how to practice) Improve your driving - Longer and straighter drives. Increase your driving distance by up to 30 yards with more accuracy (body assessment, video analysis, practice drills, personal programme) make more pars and birdies! A Mouth Watering May To You!
Welcome to our first piece in the MEATH HERALD. We hope this will become a regular section keeping you up to date with seasonal recipes and cooking tips and ideas to whet your appetite for cooking. It’s smoky season (at least it would be if the rain stopped!) and we love the feel good factor of cooking on the barbecue and eating al fresco. With this in mind we have a tasty recipe for you to try either on the barbecue or the griddle pan.
Barbecued Pork with Sage, Lemon & Prosciutto (Serves 6) 2 x 450g pork tenderloins, trimmed of any fat 1 pack of prosciutto (6 slices) 2 lemons / juice and zest 1 tbsp fresh sage leaves, roughly chopped 1 tablespoon chopped rosemary
Oil for brushing (Rapeseed is good) Sage to garnish Whizz together 4 slices prosciutto, the zest of 2 and the juice from 1 lemon, sage, rosemary and plenty of seasoning until blended to give a thick paste. Cut each tenderloin lengthways down the centre, but not all the way through. Open out the meat, butterfly style, and flatten slightly. Rub the paste over the meat. If you have time leave to marinate in the fridge for a couple of hours. Heat the barbecue or the griddle pan to a medium heat. Brush the barbecue / pan with oil. Barbecue the meat, 5 to 6 minutes each side. Cut through to check for doneness. Transfer the pork to a platter and leave to rest covered loosely in foil. Squeeze the juice of the other lemon over the pork. Scatter with sage sprigs, then serve cut into thick slices and enjoy. Below is a list of cookery classes we’re running in May for adults. Should I buy a Laptop or a Tablet? By The Phone Doctor
Health Insurance-
Family of 4 for €5.48 per day. The Irish Healthcare System is a mixture of a universal public health service, ‘Free’ and a private system where individuals pay (either through insurance or own funds) for expenses incurred for private medical treatment. There are ambiguities in the role of the Private Health Insurance system as it exists on a voluntary basis co-existing with the ‘Free’ system. So why do so many people pay for there Private Health Insurance? Perhaps to gain access to the 40 plus hospitals in Ireland that are privately owned and managed. They include the Bon Secours in Cork which is one of the largest private hospitals in Europe. There are also four major Dublin based ‘High
Tech’ hospitals- The Blackrock Clinic, The Mater Private, The Beacon Hospital, and the Hermitage Medical Clinic and the Galway Clinic which provide access to most up to date and technically advanced medical procedures, tools and medicines especially in the area of cardiology (Heart related conditions). Not to mention better quality accommodation. You not only gain access to all great benefits mentioned above but you can also avail of great money saving benefits on the following: Health Screening, Dental Discounts, Laser Eye Surgery and Alan Carr Stop Smoking. I was recently asked the question by a colleague in my local business group, whether he should buy a tablet or laptop. At the time I wasn’t really in a position to answer the question with a direct answer and having done a little research my answer would still be – it depends! To make things a little easier let’s look at the two devices separately: The tablet is a great device for surfing the internet, checking emails, Facebook, listening to music and watching movies. The fact that most tablets run an operating system like that of a mobile phone their battery life can be better than that of a Laptop, this will also leads to longer standby times too. The size of the tablet can lend itself easily to being used on the go and not requiring a special bag to carry them. The cost of a tablet can sometimes be considerably less than that of a laptop and the data storage issues have been taken care of with applications such as iCloud and Dropbox. When looking at laptops they still are the best for getting work done. Some of the main reason why a laptop might tip the balance would be due to its keyboard and the display, which in most cases would be better than that of a tablet. On a laptop you also have a better selection of UI ports such as USB and video out connections. The data storage of a laptop can also be increased by using an external memory device. With the introduction of the newer Apple MacBook’s the laptop has now become smaller and sleeker too. So the question still stands which is better? The answer however, is not that easy! It depends on what you as the user needs to get from the
device and what your personal preferences are. For that reason you might even find that there are a lot of people out there that own both a laptop and a tablet as they both fulfil different requirements. Peugeot Sport Unveils New 208 R2
Peugeot Sport has revealed the new 208 R2, which will open the road for competing cars at Tour de Corse (May 10 - 12), the fourth round of the 2012 Intercontinental Rallye Challenge. Peugeot Sport driver Stephane Sarrazin and co-driver Benjamin Veillas will drive the hot hatch ahead of the field at the event before staying on in Corsica for a week of testing after the rally. To comply with regulations, Peugeot Sport has fitted a brand new 1.6 litre 185bhp engine to the 208 R2. This new engine is based on the 1.6 VTi power unit that will be available on some versions of the new Peugeot 208, due for launch in Ireland this summer and will come with variable valve timing (VVT) for the intake and exhaust. Engineers worked to reduce the weight of the body shell to bring down the centre of gravity, optimise where the weight is located and reduce the inertia of the car with short overhangs. A long wheelbase ensures excellent stability and provides the 208 R2 with outstanding road holding. The strengthened shell incorporates a multipoint, welded roll cage and marks a real step forward in terms of safety compared to rival roll cages thanks to a new manufacturing process. The 208 R2 will also feature a newly developed gearbox. A five-speed, manual, sequential gearbox with
the lever mounted on the steering column is fitted and represents a significant evolution for a car of this class in which the gearshift is usually mounted on the floor. The lever is much shorter and positioned higher to allow a more direct and precise shift. Hydraulic steering allows greater precision and greater feedback of information particularly on loose surfaces whilst the wishbone suspension improves traction and performance. The newly developed engine, carefully designed aerodynamics, low bodyshell weight and new gearbox all work together to result in significant fuel consumption savings, to keep the costs of competing to a minimum. The gravel and asphalt versions of the R2 will both be available in kit form or in fully built form from November 2012 from Peugeot Sport. Xavier Peugeot, Product Director for 208, said, “The 208 carries over the spirit of the 205 and the 206 plus the functionality of the 207 in a thoroughly modern package. With the 208 R2, Peugeot Sport has created an ideal and affordable rally car for someone who wants their first taste of rallying or to simply enjoy their passion. The Peugeot 208 R2 will be the first of three sporting versions of the new 208 that Peugeot intends to reveal in 2012, one of which will be a replacement for the current 207 Super 2000 rally car.
