Hanover K-9 dog handlers were recognized at last Wednesday’s meeting of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors for their contribution to the county’s rescue services. Aubrey M. “Bucky” Stanley, who represents the Beaverdam District on the Hanover County Board of Supervisors, described a proposed 160-unit residential development off Route 54 near Ashland as “a real good plan” when he moved for approval at
last Wednesday’s meeting. HHHunt sought the rezoning of 63 acres located on the east of Woodside Lane and where it intersects with State Route 54. Stanley said he spoke with Dan Schmitt of HHHunt after a previous project for the site did not pan out. He said Hunt has an established record in the
county with premiere developments like Rutland on their resume. The conceptual plan calls for the development of 160 residential units at a density of 2.54 dwellings per acre. Houses would range in size from 1,700 to 3,000 square feet. The propsee 160-UNIT, pg. 7

Staff Report news@mechlocal.com Four area firefighting associations are taking issues with cuts to Hanover County Fire/ EMS in the proposed 2013 Fiscal Year budget. “We’ve been dealing with cuts for the last four years, and, finally, the proposed cuts crossed the line. They dealt with some of our core values,” Fire/ EMS Chief Fred Crosby said last week. “The core values I’m referring to are we now have two personnel on a truck to answer a call in certain parts of the county, and fire equipment

Some of the information being circulated says the cycle will increase to 50 years, but the actual number is 30 years,” he said on March 26. While overall the Fire/ EMS budget is up 2.7 percent to $14,553,235, Crosby said the operations portion is cut $396,910 to $2,855,437.
