They are the volunteers who have given nearly 500,000 hours since the Mechanicsville-based hospital opened its doors in 1998. JENA BUCHAN PREPARES FOR HUMANITARIAN WORK IN RWANDA

Four years ago, Jena Buchan’s friend helped found an organization to support allgirl team in Rwanda. Her goal to join in the efforts of Brian Beckman, a Portland, Ore., native she met while attending the University of North Carolina, will become a reality this summer.

The Mechanicsville resident and 2003 graduate of Atlee High School will travel to Kigali, Rwanda, where Play for Hope is based, on June 12. She is scheduled to return to the United States on July 1. As she prepares for this mission, Jena is raising funds to help with expenses associated with travel, as well as the see RWANDA, pg. 4 `
