Bond denied for teen accused in ax attack By Jim Ridolphi news@mechlocal.com A Hanover County teenager charged with malicious wounding will remain in custody until his trial begins at on June 30. Friends, family and supporters of Omar K. Abdelaal who attended the bond hearing left the Hanover Circuit Court disappointed with Judge J. Overton Harris’s ruling that was not ambiguous. Harris told 16-year-old defendant Omar Abdelaal and his attorney Craig Cooley that he was not convinced the teen did not represent a flight risk or a danger to the community, denying his motion for bond
Attorney Linda Scott told the court the attack was unprovoked and the defendant told investigators he wasn’t sure why he struck the victim, a 15-yearold Lee-Davis High School student whose family also was present at the hearing. “He was standing there with his hands by his side when he was struck,” Scott said. Facts surrounding the actual attack are largely undisputed, and the entire episode was caught on video by a store security camera. The assault KHALED ABDELAAL took place at Tractor Supply i to be set at $20,000 and the Mechanicsville.
