Redistricting action set at BOS meeting By Jim Ridolphi For The Mechanicsville Local Following a public hearing last Wednesday, the Hanover County Board of Supervisors deferred action on a redistricting plan that would slightly adjust the county’s voting precincts. A final decision on the plan is expected at today’s regular board meeting. Kevin Nelson, Hanover’s geographic information systems director, presented the county’s best shot at a plan that satisfied the board’s goals stated in an earlier resolution, and adhered
to Justice Department guidelines. The federal government has the final say on any plan approved by county officials. The county held three informational meetings, and staff developed the recommended plan that affects about 7 percent of the county’s population, two alternative plans and accepted a proposed plan from the Hanover County Democratic Party.
