hen Kay Beazley moved from Warrenton to Studley in 1973, the community’s post office was a small counter in the Studley General Store made of wood and chicken wire, which customers would simply hop over to retrieve their mail if the postmaster wasn’t on the clock. Beazley and her husband David quickly became acquainted with then-Studley postmaster Edna Lauterbach. Before long, Lauterbach had asked young Kay if she’d like to come in and work as an
