After months of public meetings, discussion, adjustments and compromises, Hanover County’s 2012 to 2032 Comprehensive Plan Update appears to be entering its final stages. Planning director David Maloney recently presented the plan recommended by the seven commissioners to the Hanover County Board of Supervisors, who have tentatively agreed to approval for September. Maloney said the plan features some changes and updates from the current plan. Originally, planners assumed a growth

percent. “It was their opinion that the 2 percent growth rate was a little aggressive,” Maloney said. The plan also envisioned full water and sewer coverage for the Suburban Service Area of the county, still targeted for most of the county’s commercial and residential development. “The recommended plan is the culmination of 18 community meetings that were held to review the current updated plan,” Maloney said.
