Santa coming to Village for annual parade By Melody Kinser Managing Editor MECHANICSVILLE – Have you been naughty or nice this year? Well, you’d better get yourself into the nice category because Santa Claus is coming to town Sunday. The tradition continues in the Village of Mechanicsville with the Mechanicsville Rotary Club/Mechanicsville Ruritan Club’s Christmas Parade. Festivities will get underway at 2 p.m. Dec. 6. With marching bands, floats, church groups, civic organizations, business and community leaders and, of course, Santa, this event is one that fills the streets of the Village every year. Chairman Ronnie Planz has a lineup of 104 participants ready for the big day. You can expect a day filled with Christmas music, a variety of talent and concessions

with other entries for a coveted spot on the governor’s holiday tree. The Town of Ashland was previously informed by the Virginia Municipal League (VML) that the theme for ornaments to be placed on the 2015 governor’s holiday tree was “Localities of the Commonwealth.” The Ashland Main Street Association (AMSA) then took over as facilitator of the selection process, set up guidelines for the ornament according to those provided by the VML, and launched the competition. Artists and residents who wanted to participate in the competition were asked to make a Christmas ornament that represented the Ashland community and its spirit. to oversee a shooting range in western Hanover County. In 2005, the Hanover County Board of Supervisors modernized those restrictions and added some restrictions for operation at the club, including guidelines for hours of operation and a limit on the number of memberships the group could accept. Last week, the club approached the supervisors and asked for some of those restrictions to be revised, allowing more special events, unlimited memberships and a go-ahead for the construction of an indoor shooting range on the property.
