SHLAND – With a grade point average of 4.722, Evan Lewis Phaup leads the 2018 Class of Patrick Henry High School as valedictorian. Whitney Hawthorne Graves is salutatorian with a 4.7027 GPA. future. I can’t wait to attend Washington & Lee and I look forward to pursuing a career that I will love.” Graves’ parents are Elizabeth and Aaron Reese of Mechanicsville. At Patrick Henry, she served as president of the National Art Honor Society and secretary of the Science National Honor Society. She also was a member of the BETA Club, Key Club, Science Quiz Bowl, Spanish National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. Graves has been a volunteer for Wings of Hope, VCU Health, and Bon Secours. She will be attending UCLA to study Neuroscience. As for her high school years, Graves said, “Intelligence will get you far but strength and care will get you further.”

Salvato recognized as HCPS Teacher of Year ASHLAND – Sara Salvato, a Special Education teacher at Lee-Davis High School (LDHS), has been selected as the Hanover County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Salvato has been employed with Hanover County Public Schools since 2003 and a teacher at LDHS since 2011.
She received her Bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater College and Master’s degree from Liberty University. Salvato is a graduate of Hanover County Public Schools. “I am so honored to be recognized as Hanover County see SALVATO, pg. 5
