Sutton named to Henry school Board of Elections certifi es Wyatt board seat; Axselle reappointed By Jim Ridolphi for The Mechanicsville Local HANOVER -- One incumbent and one newcomer will begin new terms on the Hanover County School Board when the panel meets for its regular July meeting this week. John Axselle was reappointed to the Beaverdam AXSELLE District seat and George Sutton was tapped to man the Henry District seat at last Wednesday’s Hanover County Board of Supervisors meeting. Both nominations were approved
by unanimous votes. Former Henry District school board representative Marla Coleman had expressed a desire to continue her service on the board at a public hearing where nominations were accepted last month. Coleman, a career educator and administrator, did not attend the meeting and but did reply to requests for SUTTON a statement. “I was not reappointed to the Hanover County School Board for a second term,” Coleman said in an emailed statement. “As you can imagine, there are lots of
questions regarding my reaction to being denied reappointment. I certainly can confirm that I am disappointed,” she added. The longtime educator said the writing was on the wall when she announced her intention to seek reappointment. “I was encouraged by several Hanover County leaders not to pursue reappointment, COLEMAN but I have too much respect for the importance of the position to believe that the best strategy for me is to avoid see BOARD, pg. 11

Tomato Festival: a county tradition with entertainment and support

ECHANICSVILLE -- What brings folks to the Hanover Tomato Festival every year? Maters, Hanover’s favorite fruit, of course, but also the great entertainment that can be found on the main stage as well.
