Friends of Hanover Dog Parks (FOHDP) is celebrating its eighth anniversary this year.
“Some pretty amazing things have happened because of the hard work and generous donations of so many supporters. And more will happen, but not without your participation,” Caroline Cooke said.
“A non-profit organization such as ours depends on the willingness of individuals to take a bit of time to serve on its Board of Directors, a volunteer group. The time commitment would be a minimum of two to four hours each month: first, to come to meetings; then to follow-up on tasks that you may have signed up for. These could be to help with membership, fundraising, education, outreach, publicity, or planning and development,” she said.
For those interested in volunteering, no experience or dog ownership are required. The Mission and Purpose follows: “The mission of the Friends is to enrich the quality of life in Hanover County through the establishment of recreational areas where dogs and people can interact in a safe, clean and pleasant environment.
“The purpose of the Friends is to promote the health and welfare of companion animals and their owners through education and recreation. In cooperation with Hanover County -- to plan, promote, establish, operate, maintain, and regulate -- we will work to create and support public off-leash dog parks. We view the dog parks as community projects -- in partnership with the County, local businesses and civic organizations -- that satisfy the needs of dog owners and non-dog owners alike.”

“Empowering action to move forward” strength, perseverance, persistence, purposefulness” The Sophie House is a local non-profit dedicated to assisting working single moms by providing them with financial assistance for quality childcare, as well as educational workshops centered on financial, legal, and family counseling issues. The Sophie House why – Did you know that there are more than 15 million single moms in America today that are currently raising more than 22 million of America’s youth?
Due to the skyrocketing costs, many single mothers are unable to afford quality childcare on one salary alone. They need help in order to hold down a job and provide for their families.
This is The Sophie House’s largest fundraising event of the year.
All proceeds raised go directly to supporting programs for families, enabling them to go from instability to stability.
