CUTLER’S
RESIDENCE For this residential renovation and addition, the client’s goal was to create an entirely new contemporary image of the home’s interior and exterior spaces. Located on eight acres, the site provided ample room to accommodate the desired list of amenities, both inside and outside of the residence. The creation of a unique living environment that would reflect the contemporary, cheerful attitude of the client was considered at every avenue of the design. 360 Architecture was challenged to develop a functional design and sensible solution that would provide an aesthetically pleasing, usable space. Wafer board, an exterior sheathing material, was used for floors, finished and ash plywoods were used for ceilings; steel for the fireplace; medium density
fiber (MDF) board for finished cabinetry; barn door hardware for the children’s doors; and commercial metal doors that were sanded down to remove the existing primer and create a pattern, for the entry. What makes this project distinctive is also what developed into the greatest challenge: a whimsical, contemporary style consistent from interior to exterior. The use of materials relatively unknown on the exterior of a structure and not typically mandated by codes and homes associations was first met with apprehension in this conservative neighborhood, but this soon turned to appreciation of a unique design solution that enhances the neighborhood.

SHEPHERD
RESIDENCE The residence is located in downtown Kansas City’s historic west side neighborhood. It’s an area of quaint old shops and homes alongside modern new construction that has emerged in tandem with the rebirth of Kansas City’s urban core. For their new, two-story home, the Shepherd family wanted a clean, minimalist look that allowed their art to stand out. The design created a sophisticated environment through an open layout and materials that included exposed metal for railings and furniture, concrete for flooring and corrugated metal for the home’s exterior. Furniture, flooring and stairs custom-made from wood, including reclaimed sources, complement the industrial look, giving it warmth and light. Featuring a third-floor penthouse and walk-out balcony, the residence is at ease in its urban context.

NAR A
RESTAUR ANT Nara restaurant owner Casey Adams came to the 360 Architecture design team to create a unique space on a limited budget. Principal Designer Tracy Stearns helped lead Adams through the entire design process, from choosing the location of the restaurant through final construction.
Focused around the menu, the design combines ancient Japanese art with a sleek, modern look. 360 designed custom-fabricated metal pieces to create the metaldrum lights, bar rack and illuminated entry table, each a distinctive focal point of the restaurant. The unique spaces and inspired look of Nara has drawn positive attention from the Kansas City Business Journal, The Pitch and The Kansas City Star.

UNFORKED
RESTAUR ANT Restaurateur Jim Sheridan collaborated with 360 Architecture to re-purpose one of his 21 frozen custard shops into a one-of-akind fast-casual space. The design is based on a new dining concept that features fresh, wholesome food served quickly at a low price. A holistic approach to create a unique dining experience ultimately transformed Sheridan’s 2,700 square-foot, stand-alone frozen custard parlor in Overland Park, KS, into the 4,000 square-foot flagship Unforked Eats and Sweets. Unforked’s take on fast food, is decidedly healthy, using locally-grown, seasonal,
organic and fair-trade ingredients. Reflecting the restaurant’s casual mixing of fast, yet healthy food; Unforked offers a comfortable and bright family dining environment. With a light-filled dining room, clean graphics, recycled materials from the old custard shop, and custom furnishings, it truly is a fresh take on an all American style diner. One of the most compelling features is the outdoor patio that has two built-in fireplaces. Unforked is a place as comfortable and good for you as home when you don’t want to cook there, making it a model for fast-food establishments anywhere.

SPIN!
PIZZ A SPIN! is a highly refined culinary experience, an update of the colorful Neapolitan dining tradition. The design created by 360 Architecture features an eclectic mix of metropolitan-inspired furnishings and bold, large, colorful graphics. It is centered on the concept of “spin,” which is manifested in a variety of creative ways; for example, the logo’s dough-tossing chef, the circular layout of the kitchen, and light fixtures custom-crafted from bicycle sprockets.
