sk Scott Bayrach how he chooses the cars he collects and he describes himself as “an ‘eclectic’ buyer” who can be moved by a sudden urge. “I’m an impulse buyer, I go through phases - I prefer low mileage cars, muscle cars, but sometimes I’ll be driven by nostalgia or an inner connection. For example, the ‘67 Oldsmobile 98 convertible reminds me of my father’s 1966 model - I have an affinity for the cars my father owned - but this one was also the National Champion in 1994. The Lincoln (a 1971 Mark III) was used by a past owner to transport friends and fellow alumni to University of Michigan football games. So each one is interesting to me on its own merits, but there is always a connection to something personal for me.” And the Saturn Yellow Buick GSX Stage I? “That’s the second one I’ve owned, just because I think it’s the height of the muscle car era. And it has great documentation.”

Mecum Auction is pleased to offer this unique collection at Dana Mecum’s Original Spring Classic Auction - 23rd Year at the Indianapolis Fairgrounds May 19-23, 2010.

restored 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 is the 39th car built in that year’s GSX production run. The Saturn Yellow Buick’s 455/360 HP Stage 1 engine is part of the car’s all-numbers-matching drivetrain, which includes a Muncie 4-speed and a 3.64 Positraction differential. Like all GSX Buicks, it benefits from Buick’s luxury approach inside, with bucket seats and console, a padded Rally steering wheel, tilt column, Rally instruments and clock and AM radio. With its bright Yellow finish, Black and Red graphics, spoilers, hood tach and chromed road wheels, there is no mistaking the GSX, and a close look at this weapons-grade Buick will demonstrate that this is one fine example.

LOT W204 1977 Cadillac Deville Coupe

T

E

425 CI, Automatic

The odometer in this virtually brand new 1977 Cadillac Deville reads just over 5,800 miles, making it quite

possibly the lowest-mileage of its kind today. The car was purchased new by Mr. L. Thomas, owner/operator of a successful Carnegie, Pennsylvania towing company. Thomas had just survived a heart attack, the result of years of 80-hour work weeks. Believing he might not have much time left, Mr. Thomas answered a life-long dream and bought the Caddy. However, after recuperating from his illness, the still-ambitious Thomas decided to return to work, living another 21 years while his treasured Cadillac stayed parked in his garage. Present owner Scott Bayrach bought the Cadillac, then with 4,000 miles on the clock, from Thomas’ wife in 2000. It is in magnificent original condition, a must for any dedicated Cadillac aficionado.

Highlights: - Cotillion White with Blue interior, White leather upholstery - Fewer than 5,900 miles, possibly the lowest of any in existence - 425 CI V-8 - 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic - All power accessories - AM/FM cassette - Air conditioning - Outstanding as-new condition

455/360 HP, 4-Speed

Cadillac revolutionized the post-war auto industry with fresh styling that

predicted such innovations as tailfins and integrated bodies, and the most significant mechanical advance since before World War 2: the high-compression overhead valve V-8. The beautiful example offered here has been awarded AACA Milestone status. It is finished in gorgeous Chartreuse with a crisp Brown leather interior, and is powered by a 1951 331 CI Cadillac engine, based on the original post-war Kettering design, mated to an automatic transmission for smooth, reliable motoring.

T

E

216/90 HP, 3-Speed

It is difficult to imagine many cars of this vintage being in anywhere near the original condition of this remarkable

1948 Chevrolet Fleetline. It is believed that its odometer reading of 5,400 miles is correct, and the car’s condition certainly supports that. The Oxford Burgundy exterior and chrome trim are in beautiful condition, and the interior as new under clean plastic covering. With Chevrolet’s 216/90 HP inline six under the hood, the car is well appointed with front and rear bumper guards with bumper wings, sun visor, spotlight, fender skirts and wide Whitewall tires, a gorgeous vintage Chevrolet.

Highlights: - 5,400 mile believed to be actual - Beautiful Burgundy exterior - All chrome is perfect - Interior is as new with plastic covers - Front and rear bumper guards with bumper wings - Windshield sun visor - Spot light - Fender skirts - Full wheel covers and wide whitewall tires - Possibly not another one like this, one of a kind - 3-Speed transmission - 216/90 HP engine

LOT W208 1932 Chevrolet 5 Window Coupe 194 CI OHV, 3-Speed

Even as the Depression was eating into new car sales, Chevrolet introduced their 1932 models, cars which today

are considered among the best-styled cars of the classic period. The 5-window coupe exemplifies this with extensive front-end chrome, twin trumpet horns, prominent hood vent doors, rear-mounted spare and split rear bumper. The Chevrolet 5-window presented here is original except for a 1990 repaint and shows a believed-to-be-accurate 40,640 miles. It retains its original 194 CI OHV engine and 3-speed synchromesh transmission and, dressed in vintage Black with Orange wire wheels and Whitewall tires, is ready to enjoy on the open road.

Highlights: - Original - New fuel pump - Repainted in 1990 - 3-speed transmission - 40,640 miles believed to be actual - Original engine
