The Paul Dehnert Estate Collection Corvettes Muscle Cars Vintage Motorcycles Rare Parts •

Paul Dehnert developed his lifelong passion for

cars during his high school years in Middleton, Wisconsin. A graduate of Middleton High School and then of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Paul’s illustrious career in the computer sciences was paralleled by his ongoing love for all things automotive. An ardent and expert collector, Paul’s wide ranging tastes encompassed everything from Ferraris, muscle cars and antique motorcycles, but he was best known for his love of Corvettes; from his restored 1969 L88 coupe to the twinturbo Lingenfelter ZR1 he drove to 193 MPH at the Texas Mile, he loved them all. He also loved being a member of the car collector community, in which he was regarded as a valued resource and friend.

1964 Pontiac Grand Prix 2-Door Hardtop, 389 CI, 4-Speed

When Paul Dehnert first saw this 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix on a Mecum

Auction brochure cover it was still in Dana Mecum’s personal collection, one of his all-time favorites. But Dana had needed a high-impact brochure cover car and, in a rare moment of haste, chose his beloved Pontiac for the task, thereby committing it to the auction. Paul was determined to take the car home, and Dana was pleased it had gone to a valued friend who shared his passion. The object of all this fervor combines high originality, exceptionally low mileage and desirable equipment. Fitted with “421” fender badges by the original owner, it actually retains its original 389 CI Tri Power engine and 4-speed. The mostly original Grenadier Red finish and matching bucket seat interior give this PHS-documented car great collector appeal, further enhanced by rare eight-lug wheels and a correct odometer reading of 20,501 miles.

Paul Dehnert purchased this 1967 Chevelle SS 396 4-speed in January 2006

from a Phoenix collector, who restored the car to its present factory original state after its career as a drag racer. Its L78 396/375 HP V-8 is a correctly coded replacement engine installed as part of the restoration. “Sleeper” enthusiasts will appreciate the car’s low-key presentation characterized by its Royal Plum Metallic paint, Black vinyl roof and Redline tires on painted steel wheels with dog dish hub caps. The crisp Black bench seat interior is highlighted by the correct factory Muncie shifter and unique optional “blinker” tachometer.

The result: an NCRS Top Flight Award the following year in October 2007 and Bloomington Gold Certification in June, 2009. Superbly detailed and still with its original engine, this Marlboro Maroon showpiece comes with an auxiliary hardtop and is accompanied by the original window sticker.

F

ord’s lightweight 1967 “R” code 427 Fairlanes were such potent machines that the first one tested by Ford Drag Council pilot Hubert Platt ran under the NHRA class record its first time out. Indeed, many of them remained competitive for years after their entry into the Super Stock factory wars of the 1960s. Early in its drag racing career this 1966 427 “R” code Fairlane was modified to compete in the altered wheelbase FX classes that evolved in the mid Sixties. It has been restored to factory original and remains so to this day, retaining its original fiberglass hood, lightweight bumpers and simple Black interior with Stewart Warner gauges. With 13.2:1 compression and a special high-lift camshaft, the 427 “medium riser” 427 CI engine and 4-speed Toploader transmission give this car the record-setting performance found only in the 57 examples built by the factory.

Increasing demand for cubic inches caused production of the fuel-injected

Corvette to drop by half in 1965 to just 771 units, but the thoroughbred 327 CI 4-speed “fuelie coupe offered here is special for several reasons beyond its inherent rarity. Originally sold in Gilroy, California, this L84 coupe spent 25 years with a single Indianapolis owner who carefully preserved its originality, including its factory-applied Tuxedo Black paint. Optioned with power steering and brakes, 4.56 gears, finned aluminum knock-offs and Goldwall tires, it has won both Chapter and National NCRS Top Flight Awards, establishing its stature as a premiere example of the breed.

1966 Plymouth Hemi Satellite 426/425 HP, Automatic

Parked motionless at the curbside it is as unobtrusive as any car could

possibly be, and yet this Citron Gold 1966 Plymouth Hemi Satellite is one of the most remarkable cars in the Dehnert Collection. It was seldom driven by its original owner, who kept it garaged at his Florida home. After 25 years in the famed McGroder Collection in Phoenix and then in the stewardship of Paul Dehnert, it has traveled just 1,895 miles and remains entirely original, from its 426/425 HP automatic power train to its Blue stripe tires, a fantastic specimen equipped with bucket seats, console with tachometer and Trans Audio AM radio. The car is impeccably documented with broadcast sheet and certicard, complete ownership record, copies of the original title, and odometer statement dated September 1977 and showing just 1,660 miles.

1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona 4-Speed with 26,393 actual miles

At a time when the mid-engine layout was making the transition from

prototype racing to production sports cars, Ferrari reasserted tradition with the front-engined 365 GTB/4, also known as the Daytona. Timeless styling by Pininfarina, 4-wheel independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and a high-winding four-cam V-12 engine made the Daytona the best sports car the world had ever seen. One of the longer-term cars in the Dehnert Collection, this 1973 Daytona coupe was purchased by Paul in the early 1990s. It was given a color change from the factory-applied Nociolla to iconic Rosso Barchetta in the late 1990s. The paint still looks fabulous today and is perfectly complemented by the original Tan leather interior. Offered with both Borrani wire and five-spoke alloy wheels, it is factory-equipped with tilt steering, stereo radio and air conditioning. This well-maintained, low-mileage Ferrari classic has that wonderful patina so highly valued by collectors.

Documented by the all-important Protect-O-Plate, this 1969 Chevrolet

Corvette L88 coupe embodies everything that Paul Dehnert loved about the model. Paul purchased the car at auction in 1999 after its restoration by the Nabers Brothers, who are renowned for the quality of their work. The original L88 427/430 HP long block was replaced with a factory built over-the-counter replacement unit, including the correct “LO” open-chamber cylinder heads, that has been stamped with the car’s VIN in addition to the original factory stamp. Fathom Green paint and a sparkling Beige cockpit are a brilliant combination, made all the better by factory sidepipes, Red stripe tires, Rally wheels and that bulging L88 hood.

The Minnesota couple who first owned this 1964 Mercury Montclair had an

ongoing deal when it came to buying a car: the make and model was up to the husband, and his beloved wife had the choice of color. In this case, the two combined to order a unique machine with a decidedly dual nature, for beneath its subtle Glacier Blue finish is one of the fiercest powerplants of the era, Ford’s R-code “medium riser” 427/425 HP engine, equipped with rare “Perma-Tuned” transistorized ignition and mated to a T-10 Toploader 4-speed transmission. This low-mileage car is very original with the exception of a single repaint of extraordinary quality. Purchased by Paul Dehnert in 2006 and expertly maintained, it is in excellent condition and comes with the original window sticker, owners manual, owners card, ID card, and receipt from Murray Motors for the dealer installed Rotunda tachometer.

1995 Corvette ZR1 Lingenfelter LT5 850 HP, Twin Turbo

Inspired by a factory twin-turbo prototype displayed at the National Corvette

Museum, Paul Dehnert contracted with John Lingenfelter to modify his lowmileage 1995 ZR1 to the same configuration. The result has been touted by Corvette Magazine as the King of the Hill of tuner Corvettes. Reprogramming the suspension and replacing the 6-speed with an automatic have served to smooth the car’s power delivery, but its low-speed manners belie the astonishing 850 horsepower that launched the car to over 190 MPH at the Texas Mile. For Paul, another highlight was the amazing engineering by Lingenfelter and factory ZR1 engineer Graham Beham, whose signatures appear on an exclusive dash plaque.

The second car in this exclusive ZR1 trio was modified by Corvette tuning

wizard John Lingenfelter, who among numerous upgrades worked his magic on the car’s LT5 engine, boring and stroking it to 415 cubic inches for an increase to approximately 650 horsepower. Power is handled by a 6-speed manual transmission, while deceleration comes with the aid of hearty Brembo front brakes with slotted and cross-drilled discs.
