known to still retain its original engine. Interestingly, it was restored by the famous Nabers Brothers in 1987 and scored Bloomington Gold honors in 1988 with a score of 99.8, a clear testament to its exceptional
quality. Since that time, the car has accumulated a mere 40 miles and remains in top Concours condition. Also NCRS Top Flight-certified, it features a total of 17 factory options as listed on the original tank sticker, including an auxiliary hardtop, bolton finned aluminum wheels, side exhaust, telescopic steering, tinted glass and an AM/FM radio. MEET THE MECUM TEAM STEFANO BIMBI, a long time friend of Dana, was actually an attendee of the very first Mecum Auction while on summer break from college. As a lifelong car enthusiast, one of Bimbi’s greatest accomplishments was resurrecting the iconic Nickey Chicago name in 2005 and bringing back the Nickey Super Camaro when GM re-released the model in 2009. As Mecum has experienced tremendous growth over the last few years, Dana Mecum has set out to grow his staff with experience and knowledge to best serve his customers. Joining the Mecum consignment team at the beginning of 2011, Stefano brings his knowledge and experience in the collector car hobby to Mecum and is eager to help with all aspects of the business. M
ALEX McGLOTHLEN belongs to the proud parents, Bobby and Lori McGlothlen, who are also key members of the Auction Staff. Alex became a team member during the Monterey 2009 Auction, originally hired to be the Internet Bidders Assistant. During the inaugural event and amongst a packed audience, Alex was asked to fill in on the floor. From that point forward, there was no question as to where he belonged and has been a front man in the auction arena ever since. When asked what he enjoys about Mecum, Alex quickly responds, “Mecum is an incredible business! Not only do I get to spend time with my family, I get to have fun at the same time. My grandfather has always said that as long as you love what you do you will never work a day in your life and that statement holds true when working for Mecum!” M
LOUISE OSTERHOLZ started working for Mecum Auctions in 2004, assisting the office while preparing for the Spring and Summer auction extravaganza. Louise, an absolute quick study, was then asked to join the traveling staff and be part of the Bidder Department at Dana Mecum’s 17th Annual Original Spring Classic, then located in Belvidere, Illinois. For more than seven years Louise has played a significant role in relaying positive customer service within the Bidder Department at the auction. With her smile and contagious laughter she is a genuine team player. When asked what her future brings, she responds, “Working for Dana and helping his company continue to be the best auction company around! M

THE FINAL ECLIPSE SALE TO BENEFIT EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
Mecum Auctions will sell a special 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse Coupe SE 3.8L – after 22 years, the very last production Eclipse to ever come off the assembly line and the only V-6 to receive the SE package – during their annual St. Charles Auction, Sept. 15-18, 2011, at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Ill. The special-edition Eclipse was custom built by Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. to commemorate the end of Eclipse production and to be auctioned at No Reserve with all proceeds to be donated to the Japan Red Cross earthquake relief. This rare, one-of-one vehicle features a Kalapana Black paint scheme that was selected by the Mitsubishi Facebook community, 18-inch Dark Argent wheels, SE lower side graphics, sunroof, leather interior, 650w Rockford Fosgate 9-speaker audio system with SiriusXM, hands-free Bluetooth phone interface, rearview camera and HID headlights.
Mitsubishi began producing the iconic Eclipse in 1989, selling four generations of the model over the last 22 years. Total sales since production started is 980,000 cars, making the Eclipse the best-selling Japanese brand sports car of the last 20 years. “Our goal with this Mitsubishi Eclipse SE was to create a very special car that would best honor the closing of this vehicle families’ chapter, built at our Normal, Illinois facility,” said Greg Adams, VP Marketing & Product Planning at Mitsubishi Motors North America. “We believe this one-off 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse SE will become a highly collectible automobile, and we are excited to work with Mecum Auctions to offer it to collectors at their high-energy events.” Mecum will auction the Mitsubishi Eclipse (Lot S100) on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1:55 p.m. The sale will be broadcast live on Mecum’s national TV show “Mecum Auto Auction: Muscle Cars & More” on Discovery Communications’ HD Theater. Q
John, Many of my colleagues have invested in collector cars due to the volatile market trends in recent years. What are the pros and cons of diversifying my portfolio with tangible investments like collector cars? - Teddy B.
A
Hi Teddy, Although investors represent only a portion of the collector car market they continue to have an impact. Certainly there are many categories of investment grade cars that command attention from investors around the world. Over the past 30 years, collector cars in general have proven to be great tangible investments and will remain so into the future. The fact that they can be enjoyed, admired, and driven only enhances the experience compared to other investment options. As the stock market and world currency is in flux, vintage cars continue to be sought after and bought at a feverish pace. Cars from our past represent much history and nostalgia that can be experienced, enjoyed and savored by all generations. That is why this market has so much appeal to investors and enthusiasts alike! - John Kraman M
