In the spirit of the holiday season, this issue of the Mecum Monthly has some great images from this year’s auctions for all to enjoy. Everything from Harley Earl to Hot Rods and all the smiles in between, it has truly been a great year. We sincerely appreciate everyone who bought and sold with us this year which helped mark another record-breaker for Mecum Auctions hammering nearly $134 million SOLD in 2010! We closed out the year with incredible enthusiasm as we filled Kansas City’s Bartle Hall with 650 cars and a 70% sell through as we continue full steam ahead to 2011 with our fastest growing event and now the largest collector car auction in January. Have I mentioned that was “East of the Mississippi” in January? With 1750 vehicles to choose from, there’s certain to be something for everyone in Kissimmee this year. On behalf of everyone at Mecum Auctions, I wish everyone safe travels and happy holidays and look forward to outstanding Mecum Moments in 2011.

“The Kissimmee Auction is Mecum’s fastest growing event as witnessed by the huge success of last year’s auction, which boasted a very high sell-through rate, more than 4,000 registered bidders and total sales over $25 million,” said President Dana Mecum. “We already see the momentum building for an even more impressive turn out at this year’s event, and it’s all taking place East of the Mississippi – it’s where the cars are.” Because of

this recent growth, Mecum’s Kissimmee auction has been expanded to 5 full days and the auction block has been relocated to Silver Spur Arena – a larger building next to the Exhibition Building where last year’s event took place. As the collector car industry’s largest January auction event, Mecum Kissimmee offers a variety of vehicles up for bid, including several no-reserve

Bigger Better December KC Results A variety of high-quality classic and muscle cars crossed the auction block at the recent Mecum Kansas City Auction, where total gross sales (excluding buyer’s premium) topped $9.3 million. The three-day auction, which took place Dec. 2-4 at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, Mo., featured nearly 650 vehicles for sale and had a 70% sell-through rate. Mecum’s top seller was a multiple award-winning 1957 Ford Thunderbird F Code Convertible – one of 212 factory supercharged models produced for 1957. “A crowd of eager bidders and motivated sellers packed our Kansas City sale, delivering a high-energy event that had outstanding growth over last year’s auction,” said President Dana Mecum. “We were able to offer 160 additional cars compared to last year, selling an amazing 130 of those. The top-performing

vehicles were an eclectic mix of rare Thunderbirds, Corvettes, a Boss 429 Mustang and more.” M Top 10 December Kansas City Sales (hammer prices) 1. 1957 Ford Thunderbird F Bird Convertible (Lot S64) at . ..$186,000 2. 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot S78.1) at ....$175,000 3. 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Big Tank Coupe (Lot F221) at ....$141,000 4. 1957 Ford Thunderbird E Bird Convertible (Lot S74) at ...$132,000 5. 1969 Shelby GT500 Fastback (Lot F198) at ......................$105,000 6. 1968 Dodge Hemi Charger R/T (Lot S79) at........................ $90,000 7. 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (Lot S53) at ...............$80,000 8. 1966 Pontiac GTO Convertible (Lot S126) at ......................$69,000 9. 1970 Dodge Challenger RT Replica (Lot S141) at ..............$65,000 10. 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (Lot T188) at .............$63,000

MEET THE MECUM TEAM RAY LONDON and the vehicle coordination team came together by what some might consider “fate”, or others might say, “It was meant to be”. While attending his first Mecum Auction with a close friend in New York, tragedy struck. It was September 11, 2001, all planes were grounded and the event staff was unable to reach the auction site. As a lifelong car lover, Ray eagerly volunteered to help coordinate cars and assist in any way he could. Ray’s spirit and enthusiasm and recent retirement from pharmaceutical sales made it a natural for London to go on the road with Mecum, and he did just that. “I’ve made lifelong friends over the last 10 years, and look forward to going to every auction.” M

TIM PHILLIPS has been intrigued by helping people buy and sell collector cars ever since his first Mecum Auction over seven years ago. A full-time auctioneer since the early 1980s, Tim started working for Mecum when another bidder’s assistant became ill just before an auction. During his tenure with Mecum, Phillips has helped people from all over the world buy cars and enjoys working unique auction events such as last year’s ‘57 Heaven Collection. When asked about his favorite aspect of working for Mecum Auctions, Tim mentioned, “The entire Mecum crew consists of good people that work together like one big family.” M

WELBY MD joined Mecum Auctions full time in January 2007 and has evolved his primary responsibility as the answer man to the Mecum home office phone system. Welby has taken his strong discipline skill set from his military experience to develop a consistent phone call delivery system to ensure all phone calls get to the correct department or person. During auctions, you can find Welby as your first point of contact in the auction office whereby he will always ensure you get to the right station based on your specific needs. “I realize customer service is the most important aspect of my job, and like everyone at Mecum, I take that very seriously.” M
