LOUIS J. POZANTIDES, M.S.Ed. Clinical Associate Professor

The Medaille Community is pleased to have Louis J. Pozantides as the 2009 Honors Convocation Speaker and the 2009 recipient of the Dr. Brian R. Shero Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award. Lou received his Bachelor’s degree from Medaille College, and completed his Master of Science in Education degree from Canisius College. He has been at Medaille College since 2002 in the Communications Department. In addition to teaching courses in Speech, Writing for Media, Media Promotion and Advertising/PR, Lou heads up the most comprehensive Field Placement program for Communication students in Western New York. Under Lou’s leadership, Medaille’s Communication students gain valuable internships at all the local media outlets, every local Public Relations and Advertising firm, and numerous non-profit organizations. Internship sites call Lou first for interns because they know how diligently he works with our students to make the Field Placement a true learning experience. Lou is a member of the National Broadcasters Association and he brings 25 years of broadcasting experience to Medaille College. Twenty of those years were at WBLK Radio, in Buffalo where he held the positions of Morning Host, News/Public Affairs Director, and Program Director. He also spent several years in television as a Weatherman for local Buffalo Channels 7 and 2. Lou continues to do professional voice over work and he is in charge of arranging all the advertising and promotion for the Annual Greek Festival in Buffalo. As a Medaille Faculty member, Lou’s greatest joy comes from teaching the students, as reflected in his receiving the Student Government Association Professor of the Year Award for five years in a row. Lou resides in Derby, NY with his wife and two children, and is very proud of the fact that his daughter is a student at Medaille majoring in Psychology. This evening, we thank Lou for his years of dedication to the College and for speaking to the Medaille Community on this important occasion.
