Suite of Clinical Modules OBSTETRICS

Assess, treat and manage a broad spectrum of low- and high-risk pregnancies with a focus on inpatient labor and delivery best practices. Resulting improved safety and quality outcomes benefit patients and providers alike. The module improves compliance with guidelines from the American Academy of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecology, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and other institutions.

RADIOLOGY

Use protocols to guide clinicians for appropriate imaging orders, target overutilization and underutilization of imaging, resulting in enhanced patient safety, quality and compliance. Selected advanced imaging modalities are encompassed in the module. The module is a compilation of the ACR Appropriate Use Criteria and other best practice guidelines which are established to promote appropriate use of advanced diagnostic imaging services.

STROKE

Improve patient care and safety during acute and subacute phases of stroke in the ED and inpatient settings. Target reductions in readmissions by validating proper discharge procedures. Measure compliance with stroke quality measurements. Developed in collaboration with the American Heart Association, the American Stroke Association, the Brain Attack Coalition.

VTE PROPHYLAXIS

Monitor compliance with protocols for Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) prevention and treatment in the inpatient setting. Track key VTE Prophylaxis and related measures to support improved quality and patient safety initiatives. The module follows the VTE Prophylaxis measures endorsed by the National Quality Forum, aligned with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and used in the Joint Commission’s ORYX hospital accreditation program.

CHF

Evaluation, staging and management of patients according to best practice guidelines is supported at the point of care in the outpatient setting. This module is designed to increase adherence with selected guidelines from the American Heart Association Functional Classification, Heart Failure Association Get with the Guidelines program and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

DIABETES

Based on best practices, ensure patients receive appropriate care and screening in a timely manner in outpatient settings. Guide clinicians in identification and management of associated risk factor/ comorbidities for Diabetes such as hyperlipidemia, HTN in order to improve patient care, quality and compliance. The module is based on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines, Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) measures, and evidence-based guidelines from professional governing bodies.

PEDIATRIC ASTHMA

Confirm diagnosis of asthma, assess quality of symptom control and select plans of care, including recommendations on steroid treatment, whether to admit patients and prevention of readmission. As the mainstay of asthma management remains pharmacotherapy, the module can help in recommendations regarding the most appropriate medication and possible drug interactions.

Suite of Compliance Modules ICD-10

Increase compliance of documentation associated with correct ICD-10 coding for selected clinical conditions. In real time, the module prompts the clinicians for appropriate and thorough documentation of the complete clinical case to enable correct diagnostic coding.

INPATIENT-ONLY PROCEDURES

Assist clinicians to ensure the accuracy of the patient status based a review of the inpatient-only procedures. With more than 1,700 CPT codes identified as inpatient-only procedures, hospital providers may not be aware of the procedures that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services considers appropriate as inpatientonly procedures.

VALUE-BASED PURCHASING

Improve adherence with Medicare’s Effective Clinical Care Measures by prompting clinicians when non-compliance is identified for selected measures. The module includes measures are in 5 clinical areas that Medicare is focused on improving through better care and containment of costs and reported under the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program. It can additionally assist clinicians with guidance on pneumococcal vaccination in the outpatient setting by flagging risk factors and finding the right vaccine based on a patient’s vaccination history.

READMISSIONS REDUCTION

Address readmission reduction goals enterprise-wide with decision support. This module can assist with critical decisions and guidance at discharge and during the first 30 days post-discharge for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and pneumonia.

PEDIATRIC COMPLIANCE AND EFFICIENCY

This module enables an organization to appropriately leverage the resources of the hospital facility and reduce waiting time of a decision for patients in the observation area. Additionally, this module supports compliance with medication reconciliation (national safety goal) to be sure the patient is prescribed the needed home meds.

PEDIATRIC COMPLIANCE PLAN INITIATION

This module provides the identification of the need for a physician order for a care plan or best practice guideline, where available, in order to deliver defined best practices for the clinical condition consistently across all patients and providers in the inpatient setting.

ALTERNATIVE QUALITY CONTRACT (AQC) (BCBS OF MASS ACCOUNTABLE CARE ORGANIZATIONS) Assists providers in meeting Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Alternative Quality Contract (AQC) Measures, as part of the BCBS ACO contracts with providers. The module enables clinicians to remain aligned with AQC, which has been shown (New England Journal of Medicine, 2014) to improve quality of patient care and to lower costs.
