THE BOOK CLUB
Thinking of joining a book club?
There is to some, a stereotypical image of book clubs as talking arenas for bookworms, or gaggles of girls discussing the latest ‘chick lit’. Which, of course, to an extent they are, but there are many more reasons for joining a local reading group.
A reading group can, for many, offer an excellent route into an established local social network. Offering the opportunity to meet people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, book clubs often also give you the chance to meet people with fairly similar interests, making it an excellent way to get out and meet new people.
Many groups have a focus towards a certain genre or variety of fiction or non fiction, although some are broader than others. Being given a reading list can help you to extend your usual reading, as you will need to keep up with the set texts if you are going to participate in the group, and while many groups decide on titles as a joint decision, the chances are some of the choices will not be your usual favourites. Reading of course will help you to broaden your horizons and vocabulary; the discussion and insights
from other readers give this aspect a whole new dimension.
Reading groups are also an excellent way to help improve your communication skills. Discussion will hopefully naturally improve your listening skills, as you navigate your way through others interpretations of the reading material. Speaking in a group is much less formal and structured than the classroom, but will help you build confidence in talking to new people, and to speak to a wider audience.
Finally, if you have any ambitions to write your own novel, reading groups can be a fantastic resource, giving you a window into others opinion’s, what for them makes a good or bad plot or characterization, and perhaps help you to mature the seed of your idea.
BOOK CLUBS
Book clubs are often attached to library associations, and most libraries should be able to provide you with a list of relevant local groups. Or you can try the Library Associations website to start with www.essexlib.org
Running clubs Running
has become a more popular sport
Are you thinking of joining a running club? Perhaps the lingering thoughts behind your New Years Resolution, or shedding some pounds pre holiday? Running clubs have become more common in recent years, and can be found
throughout the county should you be inclined. Running clubs are not just for the fitness fanatics in lycra among us, but also offer a diverse and friendly membership. Joining a club is an
excellent motivational tool, allowing you to adopt a slightly different mindset and take the hobby slightly more seriously.
It also means company and security. Many runners enjoy pounding the streets alone, but company can spice up a run, providing the motivation of someone to pace yourself with. If you are in training for a specific event, say a marathon or Race for Life, then you may be able to team up with another runner who is also competing. If you are simply looking for a fitness activity, the motivation of not letting down a running partner should keep you going; but if you are competing, a group can add a little competition to help you push yourself! They also offer a good opportunity for socializing. Some groups do organize social events, group runs and other such friendly activities.
Finding a partner to run with is also ideal for those nervous of running alone. Both male and female runners can feel unsafe, especially when the evenings draw in again, and using a group can offer safety in numbers, and access to well thought out, properly lit routes.
Another important aspect is access to health information. Running can be a very simple activity, but if you are serious, then coaching advice is crucial to ensure you work up to your goals and avoid injury. A club should also be able to give advice on finding a local physiotherapist, sports massage specialist or any other health professional you may need.

ENGLEMAN WILLS and POWERS OF ATTORNEY PROBATE + EQUITY RELEASE + FUNERAL PLANS
Will Writer’s Words of Wisdom
( Red for Danger / Green for Safety )
If a married couple dies together, and where there is no Will, the eldest is deemed to have died first, so only the family members of the surviving spouse will inherit.
A beneficiary or their spouse should not be a witness to a Will, or they will disinherit themselves.
Exempt from Inheritance Tax are the estates of current or retired members of the Armed Forces, Fire, Police and Ambulance services and first response emergency & rescue organisations, as well as charities, national museums, universities and the National Trust. This is provided that they died on active service, or if their later death was caused by an injury or disease that was received or aggravated while they were on active service.
Unless it has a contemplation of marriage clause, marriage or re-marriage invalidates a Will, requiring a new arrangement.
Without a Will, spouses and civil partners are NOT automatically entitled to all of the estate assets on death.
A properly worded Will could ensure that half the value of your home is potentially protected against Local Authority care home fees.
Without a Will, the Government could inherit your estate if you die with no surviving traceable relatives.
If a couple dies simultaneously, the elder is deemed to have died first - s184 Law of Property Act 1925, leaving only the younger spouse’s family to inherit.
Without a Will, even grandparents have NO automatic Legal Guardianship of their orphaned grandchildren.
There is no Inheritance Tax liability if the deceased spouse has left their entire estate to their surviving spouse or civil marriage partner, BUT, without a Will, the Rules of Intestacy, ie ‘The Government Will’, could land the children with an IHT liability.
Although divorce does not invalidate your Will, marriage/re-marriage will indeed invalidate your Will, unless a marriage clause has been embedded.
Always appoint charities as your final beneficiaries, to avoid your estate being claimed by the Government.
By the use of a Property Protection Trust, you can ensure that if you pre-decease and your spouse re-marries and has more children, your own children benefit from your share of your home, and not the new spouse. BUT..... if Probate is not completed, the Trust Deed will not be set up and notified at the Land Registry !
If children have special care needs, an appropriate Discretionary Trust could avoid loss of State benefits on inheriting your estate.
A Grant of Probate confirms to Executors that they have the authority to act and carry out the wishes of the deceased.
Even if an estate is less than £5,000, Probate may still be required re lifetime gifts in the preceding 7 years, so take legal advice.
Visit my website for a full list of benefits of a Will, and to find out more information.

By renowned Tarot expert Rev. (Dr.) Swati Prakash (MD Alt. Medicine, Energy Healer, Wiccan High Priestess, Past Life Therapist, Inner Child Healer, Vedic Astrologer) of www.askswati.com for your western zodiac based on your date of birth.
Aries (March 21 - April 19):
The card I have drawn for you for the year ahead is the Three of Pentacles. Your year will be wonderful for your career and professional associations. You might consider making fresh investments that deliver excellent results. Strong co-operation and mutually rewarding relationships help you soar. Be accepting of feedback from colleagues and loved ones.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20):
The Knight of Swords indicates that you might be in a tearing hurry to move forward faster than ever this year. Your restlessness might be triggered by a desire to achieve results and seek new frontiers. You will find that you might lose sight of emotions and depth at times especially in matters of the heart. Take some time to reflect, share, and absorb the good that life has to offer for more happiness.
Gemini (May 21 - June 20):
The Ace of Swords makes you feel determined and in a position to make tough decisions. This year is a turning point for you in aspects of independence, right thinking, clarity of mind, and resolve. You will defeat strong enemies and face battles by staying cool and undeterred. Try to soften your grip when needed in order to bring some warmth and love, as you keep fighting for what you deserve in life.
Cancer (June 21 - July 22):
The card for this year is the Eight of Cups that helps you move on and leave behind whatever is unwanted and not in your best interest. This is the time for letting go of strong emotions of sorrow or pain. You will find solace and comfort in yourself or caring people. In order to heal yourself you must leave a place, relationship, or situation that no longer serves you. This will pave the way to a better year ahead.
Leo (July 23 - August 22):
You have the King of Wands this year, helping you be a a dynamic, reliable person in matters of your expertise. There may be an ascension to a higher position at work or opportunities to speak, respond, and take leadership. Meeting charismatic personalities will remind you of your own self worth and teach you things that help you greatly in every aspect of life. Be inspired and give more of yourself.
Virgo (August 23 - September 22):
The Two of Wands is a card of progress towards new frontiers. You might receive an offer that takes you places. You will benefit from forward planning and some foresight. News and visitors from offshore may be received, or you might travel and see more of the world and develop new relationships or partnerships. You feel that your vision is expanding and you gain sight of what you can do more of.
Libra (September 23 - October 22):
I have drawn the Four of Swords for you this year which is excellent for relaxing, healing, recuperation, and well-being. Some things may take more time than you thought. Be kind to yourself and give yourself attention in matters of the heart and soul. You may even go on a sabbatical or a break in career or relationships in order to recharge yourself and feel wonderful again.
Scorpio (October 23 - November 21):
The Eight of Swords is your card for the year. While you feel a bit limited by circumstances right now, you will find that miracles are still possible, if you have faith. You may want to create stronger boundaries in order to protect yourself from harm. Be careful of situations that could be a trap and remain patient. You might not be able to foresee it yet, but new paths will open up soon as the year wanes.
Sagittarius
(November 23 - December 21):
The Lovers card for you this year brings your romantic and business partnerships in more focus. Some of you might leave one relationship that is really not meant to be. It may seem like a harsh decision, but it actually is our angels protecting you from loss and failure. You are receiving a higher calling from another dimension that might fulfil you better.
Capricorn
(December 22 - January 19):
Your card for the year is the Nine of Swords that reveals your trauma and stress carried over from the past, or in some cases a continuing tension. We all need to face strong memories in order to recover and break free from repeating life patterns. You need some good sleep, chamomile tea, and some TLC. Try to focus on those things and people that bring you peace and relaxation.
Aquarius
(January 20 - February 18):
The beautiful Two of Cups brings to you someone who will be there for you as a companion, romantic partner, or a friend. You may feel attracted to each other mutually and share a connection. Try to go out more and understand the possibilities this may bring into your life. Your work and career life benefits too from this new energy including partnerships.
Pisces
(February 19 - March 20):
Your card for this year is the bright Sun that cheers you up. This may be your child or a young person who brings you real happiness. You may also hit a new high in your career. You may excel in sports and outdoor activities this year. This truly could be a year of new beginnings after some dull weather in the last one. Enjoy yourself and have a great time.

POSITIVE TRAINING METHODS WITH PROVEN RESULTS
Dog training methods come in all shapes and sizes. Some trainers find using deterrents, such as pain and loud noises, is an effective approach, but we know that this only provides short-term results. For lasting success and true changes to your dog’s behaviour, you need to build their confidence and help them trust in you as their owner.
Our clients always see results, and we offer them tailored support wherever they are. Whether it’s a new puppy or a rescue dog, we train all pets and go beyond the basics. As well as sit, stay and all the rest, we teach you to bond with your dogs and create a relationship built on trust.
