Thank you for joining us this evening for a celebration of entrepreneurialism through the region, across multiple sectors and at various sizes and stages of business.

Theory is, gather hundreds of smart people in one place at one time, highlight scores of successes, add powerful insights in our keynote tonight from Microsoft’s digital strategy director Richard Potter – and great things can happen.

Connections matter. Happenstance encounters tonight can have profound consequences. None of us can know how many thousands of ﬂowers will bloom, how many valuable partnerships can be forged, how much fostering of talent will happen, and how many helpful relationships, even investments might be made.

The future is unwritten and so is your evening.

That’s part of the challenge of entrepreneurialism. Idea, theory, iteration, learning, reﬁnement: repeat. Like a rocket in the ground, no one can be sure where with even the most minor of adjustments it might land.

Entrepreneurs get to set their own trajectory, to create their worlds as they wish, from their half hunches and blank sheets of paper to worked ideas. And they get to deﬁne success on their own terms.

Usually, that is. For once, not wholly tonight though, where the ultimate success of winning an EntreConf Award has been deﬁned by our panel of judges.

Beyond her role at NatWest, Elly is involved in various initiatives that seek to enable entrepreneurship through collaboration, innovation and inclusivity. Her passion for empowering founders and helping businesses thrive has established her as a key inﬂuencer and connector within the entrepreneurial landscape. With a background in commercial and contract law, Kimberley began supporting innovation in 2016 when she started teaching researchers at University of Bristol about the value of IP. She went on to be the programme manager for the Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre, before moving to SETsquared where she has supported the creation and growth of over 100 deep-tech companies.

It was the first EntreConf Awards; nobody knew fully what to expect, and the future is unwritten, of course.
