We’re now busier than ever, which means finding quality time to spend together can be a challenge. But one of the best ways that parents can spend more time with their kids is by doing the things they love. That’s why family gaming nights can be an ideal way to stay connected.
“We know that gaming together can help nurture positive values, teach important life skills and lead to a greater overall feeling of connectedness,” says Heather Potter, strategic communications manager at Nintendo.
Ready to get gaming? Potter shares her top tips for your next family game night.
For the ultimate in early video game education, Potter encourages parents to start with the classics. “It’s
amazing how parents can relive the magic of their childhood with their own kids by playing their old favourites,” says Potter. “In addition to the new games featuring iconic characters like Mario and Zelda, it’s also easy to play the old favourites. Nintendo Switch Online has a huge library of classic games that parents can teach their kids, making new memories in the process.”
Looking for a good gaming experience with your little ones? Choose games with easy or assist modes.
“This is a great way to not only introduce your kids to video games, and it also helps them to really engage and feel a sense of accomplishment,” says Potter. “For example, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has a smart steering option to help young players stay on track.”
When kids are in the eight to 12 age range, their love of video games can really take flight. At this stage and beyond, Potter recommends that parents look for co-operative games –ones that lets them team up with their kids to work toward a common goal, teaching communication and teamwork skills along the way. “Super Mario Odyssey has an incredible twoplayer co-op mode. The first player controls Mario, while the second controls Cappy, Mario’s hat and main ally. Another great co-op game is Overcooked! 2, a game in which players work together to cook up a storm in a series of chaotic, crazy levels.” ■

We’ve all had that moment when you reach into the fridge for the container of yogurt, jar of pizza sauce or bottle of mustard and notice that the “best before” date on the package has passed. Does that mean you need to toss it in the garbage? No, not necessarily.
Best before dates appear on most food products that have a durable life of 90 days or less. There are some exceptions, including fruit and vegetables.
You should be aware that there is a key difference between a “best before” date and an “expiration date.”
Simply put, a best before date indicates the timeframe when a prod-
uct will be at its tastiest and freshest. After that date, the product may still be edible, but might not look or taste quite as good.
By contrast, an expiration date is the last day that something can safely be consumed. Expiration dates only appear on a small number of products, including infant formula and meal replacements.
It’s important to note that best before dates only apply to products that have been stored properly, such as refrigerating dairy products and avoiding extreme temperatures for pantry items.
Other products, such as canned goods or dried pasta, may also have best before dates, but those are not
actually required, and they’re usually a year or more out from the packaging date.
An unopened container of yogurt might be safe to eat days or even weeks after the best before date if it has been properly refrigerated. But a month or more after that date, maybe not.
When you do open the package, look for signs such as a funky smell or the presence of mould. By doing this instead of immediately tossing the product out, you can help reduce food waste.

Gas-powered items such as lawn mowers that are not emptied of fuel cannot be moved by your moving company. This is in accordance with Ontario’s Health and Safety Act and Hazard Materials Act. The law prohibits us from transporting these types of goods.
Many movers, including our company, have their own guidelines about this. Securing plants takes a level of special treatment that we are not prepared to offer. If customers need advice on how to move plants, we can help them find companies that are equipped to do so. In our

experience, most customers move plants themselves.
When we see items that are too big and bulky for us to handle, we will let you know. Upright pianos, for example, are incredibly heavy and usually require heavy-duty dollies and a truck with a lift gate. We can definitely help you with any size of piano. Massive wall units can also present challenges. We can help you find the right firm to move those specialty items, if required.
It makes sense that small valuables like jewelry, stocks, bonds and cash are items you should transport yourself.

When you hire a moving company, it is important to understand what services the firm can and cannot provide. At Two Men and a Truck – Canada, we pride ourselves on accommodating our clients in every possible way. But there are some requests that pose problems. There are 10 common issues that most movers won’t do, or are forbidden to do by law. 4
Moving animals takes special care, and movers are not willing to take responsibility for pets during a move. You are best to arrange for them to be somewhere else on moving day, and then ease them into their new surroundings yourself.
Ontario’s Conditions of Carriage requires movers to insure items at least 60 cents per pound. If our coverage does not include antiques or works of art, we can arrange it through our Insurer as long as these items are itemized upfront. Your homeowner insurance policy may also have a rider for goods in transit.
Sometimes people ask us to rearrange their furniture at their destination, which adds to the time estimated for your move. We are happy to provide you with this service.
We are neither plumbers nor electricians. If you require installation of your major appliances, arrange to have those professionals help you during your moving week.
7 8 9 10
We get paid from the time we leave our facility until the time we return. If you change the parameters of your contract or something unex-
pected happens on your end to cause a delay, the move continues on as planned but will likely extend longer than your estimate.
We do not do “load only moves.” If someone else is driving the vehicle and the goods are not under our control, we can’t take responsibility for the condition of the goods at their final destination.
All of the above help ensure that your possessions arrive at the other end in one piece, with the safety of you, your family and the movers in mind. And, that’s our job!

After a year of working from home for many of us, it’s only natural to be hitting a rut. No matter how great your at-home work setup is, you might need a refresh.
Here are few tips to make working from home so much better:
A lot of work-related clutter can build up over time. Take a few minutes to collect any office items lying
around the house, such as your video call headphones or your loose papers and sticky notes. Then recycle anything you don’t need and store the rest in a dedicated location. You’ll feel fresher and ready to take on what’s next.
Just because you aren’t going into the office doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to feel your best and look sharp. If you’re keen on business wear, try easing into a new pair of pants or a simple summer dress to find a more relaxed summertime vibe. If you’ve defaulted to pyjamas and sweats every day, consider finding the happy medium with a new pair of sleek joggers, just for a change.
Take advantage of the season and head outside while you can. A quick walk in a local park is a great way to take a break or end your workday. If you have a backyard or balcony, set up a simple internet extender to move the office outside on warm days. The fresh air will lift up your spirits and do wonders for your productivity.
According to a recent survey, only 18 per cent of Canadians are using online identity theft protection tools, and most of us just don’t know where to start. With so much online activity taking place, including a high volume of info sharing, we’ve become increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks and identity theft, so it’s worthwhile to update your security measures for your personal devices as best as you can.
While no one can prevent all identity theft or cybercrime, using an all-in-one solution like Telus Online Security Powered by NortonLifeLock can help protect your personal devices, online privacy and information. Made for consumers, the comprehensive coverage is available across Canada (excluding Quebec residents) and includes multiple layers of protection that can help protect your identity and provide restoration if your personal information is ever stolen.
Overall, changes like these can help bring peace of mind to your work-from-home life going forward. Find more information at telus.com/ onlinesecurity. ■
