Newsletter No 7. MARCH 6, 2014
‘It’s only small change’ ■ Our Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge Treasurer Wor. Bro. Neville Emerson has commenced a small fundraising drive. Attached to members’ copies of this Newsletter are several bank money bags, which Neville would like you to fill with your loose change. Neville intends to build a modest Treasurer’s Fund, for small charitable and incidental payments. Members are invited to fill the bags each month with spare silver (5c, 10c, 20c, 50c) and gold ($1, $2) coins. Neville will even accept 1c and 2c coins. The bags do not have to be filled with any specific amounts. There will also be a special bucket in the South each month for members’ contributions.

Howard improves ■ Wor. Bro. Howard Purcell is improving after knee surgery in early February. The original prognosis was that he would be off-the-road for about six weeks. Howard is hoping to be at the April meeting of Lodge.
Fires hit properties ■ The Kilmore property owned by Wor. Bro. Robert Woolley and his family was touched by the bushfires that hit in early February. The fires came close to the house, and damaged fences. ■ RWor. Bro. Brian Austen, PDGM, and family were evacuated when the South Gisborne fires hit last week. He finished up at his eldest daughter’s house after being evacuated on the Sunday.
Tributes offered ■ Our own Wor. Bro. Geoff Brown was one of those to offer a eulogy at the Memorial Service for our late Bro. Bill Lyon at the Ivanhoe Grammar School Chapel of the Holy Trinity last month. Brenda Lyon has written to the Lodge to say thanks for the tribute published in this Newsletter last month, and for the minute’s silence observed at the February meeting.

Thank you Len! ■ Guest-of-honour at tonight’s Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge meeting is Wor. Bro. Len Jinnette. Len has been a friend of our Lodge for many years, and we wish to recognise her achievements, particularly as a past Chairman of the Ivalda Masonic Temple Trust. Len spent 10 years in this role, and has continued his active association, working alongside Wor. Bro. Eddie Hutchinson, who recently retired from the same position. Eddie was guest-ofhonour at our December meeting. Wor. Bro. Geoffrey Davey, who has apologised that he cannot be with us for the March meeting, says that he has had an association with Len for about 30 years. Len says that apart from Len’s Chairmanship, he has maintained the Temple library and displays, been active in Temple works ... as well as having been Master of the DarebinRotherwood and Dromana lodges. Geoffrey describes Len as “straight up and down”, and as “honourable Freemason and an honourable man”. He says that Len worked as a motor mechanic first for Repco, and then in his own business. Len has been involved in many community activities including Scouts. Eddie Hutchinson says Len was “very industrious”, spending a lot of time on Temple projects. “He made that job his own,” Eddie said. Thank you Len Jinnette.
