■ A good number of Ivanhoe Gramarians Lodge members made the journey to Sandringham Masonic Temple on Tuesday, June 17. Amongst those to attend were Max Fraser accompanied by Damian Byrne, Robin Dunstone, Charlie Freedman, Graeme Hawke, Michael Holloway, Wayne Motton, Howard Purcell and Rahim Samat. There were a number of apologies including those from distinuished Bros. Carpenter, Du Guesclin Gascoigne, Gould, Long, Thomas, Robert Woolley The night was hosted by Mount Scopus and Collegians Lodge. Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge will host the 2015 night, probably in May.
Greetings from Ray
■ During the past month we have heard from Wor. Bro. Ray Thomas, who writes: “I am at present in Taiwan and will probably remain here for another month or two. During this time I will regularly attend Harmony Lodge in Taipei.” Ray sends his fraternal greetings.
John on the mend
■ We hear that one of our honorary members, Most Wor. Bro. John Connell, 100, was due to return to his East Ivanhoe home, after a brief stay at Templestowe. Hearty good wishes John. Past Master, Wor. Bro. Geoff Brown, accompanied by the School’s Director of Development, Astrida Cooper, make regular visits to see John.

Well done Travers ■ Bro. Travers Gascoigne was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason at the June meeting of Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge. Travers had prepared excellently, and was congratulated by members. A presentation was made to him in the South by District Co-Ordinator Wor. Bro. Ross Broad. Travers his due to attend his MAP (Masonic Advancement Program) at Preston on Monday (July 7).
Lodge finances
■ Our Treasurer, Wor. Bro. Neville Emerson, has been working busily behind the scenes, bringing our Lodge books up to date for the end of the financial year. They now go to our Auditor, Wor. Bro. Geoff Vardon, for his inspection and report. It is hoped that the audited accounts will be circulated with the Summons for the September meeting.

Back from Italy
■ Off all places to catch up, RWor. Bro. Geoffery Davey and your Secretary met at the opening night of Circus Oz at Birrarung Marr last month. Geoffrey says he has just returned from a three-week tour of Florence. Florence is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and of the province of Florence. It is the most populous city in Tuscany, with approximately 370,000 inhabitants, expanding to over 1.5 million in the metropolitan area.

■ Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge expects to contribute its Installation Night raffle proceeds to the Northern District nominated charity, Cottage By The Sea at Queenscliff. Cottage By The Sea is a nongovernment, registered charity that empowers disadvantaged children by supporting them in developing their self-esteem, health and wellbeing. Every child deserves a happy and a healthy life.

70-year jewel
■ Something to look forward to in our coming Masonic year is the presentation of a 70-year jewel to Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge member, Bro. John Harper. John was nominated to join Eaglemont Lodge in 1944 by Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge founding Chaplain, Rev. Bro. Sydney Buckley. God willing, the presentation is due to take place at our October 2 meeting.

Initiation fees rise
■ Grand Lodge has advised that its initiation fees have risen to $400, as from July 1. Capitation fees have risen by $9 annually.

■ An online session about the structural and operational details surrounding proposed changes to how Freemasons Victoria conducts its benevolence and philanthropy was held last night (Wed.). This follows sessions held statewide, and precedes a vote to be conducted at the Quarterly Communication in September.

Harriers celebrate
■ The history of the Ivanhoe Harriers and Ivanhoe Grammar School were intertwined when they each formed 100 years ago. The School’s founding Headmaster, and the Lodge’s founding Chaplain, Rev. Bro. Sydney Buckley was central to both organisations. Ivanhoe Harriers Athletic Club, established in 1914, has a long tradition of producing top quality athletes. The Harriers are holding a centenary function at the Town Hall, Ivanhoe (‘The Centre’) on Saturday, October 11.

■ Honorary member, RWor. Bro. Brian Austen, is recovering after having important eye surgery. He says he now has 20-20 surgery but cannot see!
Talks at Yea
■ Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge has had a long association with the Duke of Clarence Lodge No 172 at Yea. Members of that Lodge are holding a closed meeting this month, with the possibility that they may hand back their Warrant to Grand Lodge.
Chapel at Mernda
■ An Anglican chapel from Murtoa looks likley to make its way to the Ivanhoe Grammar School Plenty Canpus (Mernda) from Mitiamo, near Kerang. We are told that the School lodged the successful tender to purchase the former St Paul’s Anglican Church building. The plans include it being transported in three sections to Mernda.
