Big year ahead for Max ■ Wor. Bro. Max Fraser is tonight installed as Master of the Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge. It was Max’s special wish that the ceremony be conducted by the Northern District Ceremonial Team, and the Installing Master be RWor. Bro. Graham Pitcher, PJGW. A hearty welcome is extended to all. This is a special year for the Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge, as it prepares to celebrate the centenary of Ivanhoe Grammar School in 2015. The School was founded by Bro. Rev. Sydney Buckley in 1915, and Centenary celebrations begin in February. The Lodge will conduct a ‘Buckley Night’ on Thursday, February 5, and it is expected that a presentation will be made to the School on that night.

What’s On August 2014
Initiate’s fee stays ■ Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge last month voted to write to Grand Lodge to voice disapproval at the rise of the Initiate’s Fee from $192.50 to $400. Grand Secretary RWor. Peter Henshall replies that the price increase will now be delayed until January 1. “In the last edition of the Grand Secretary’s Bulletin, the following list of the new fees and charges, approved by the Board of General Purposes, for the 2014/15 year were announced: ■ The Capitation Fees will increase to $99 (inclusive of GST); ■ Grand Rank Fees will increase to $120 (inclusive of GST); ■ The price of the Masonic Guide will increase to $11 (inclusive of GST); ■ The price of advertising in the Masonic Guide will remain at $45 (inclusive of GST); and ■ Initiates Fees will increase to $400 (inclusive of GST). “The Board of General Purposes has received a number of enquiries expressing concern about the size and rate of increase of the New Initiates Fee and its possible impact on prospective candidates. “This fee is paid to Freemasons
Victoria on all new members as contribution to defray some of the costs associated with an appropriate and efficient management of their enquiry, entrance into, and progress through Freemasonry to the third degree. “In addition, the New Initiates Fee provides each new initiate with a comprehensive compendium of information contained in a leather satchel, which includes information for all the degrees through which he is passing and his membership certificate (including frame). “From this year, the compendium will also include a copy of the VSL and a copy of the Book of Constitutions so that the Lodge does not have to purchase these items separately. “Should the VSL not be the book to be used for a particular candidate, the cost of the relevant volume will be reimbursed. “As a result, the Board has decided to defer introduction of the new fee until January 1, 2015. In the meantime, it has formed a work group ... for now, the pre-June New Initiates Fee ($192.50 incl. GST) and arrangements will continue to apply.

Plenty Valley ■ Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge last month sent a letter of goodwill to Plenty Valley Lodge which has decided to hand in its Warrant. Plenty Valley Lodge was consecrated in 1999, and incorporated the Epping and Kinglake Lodges, with which Ivanhoe Grammarians has had a link over decades. The late Wor. Bro. Frank Mackenzie, who was our Master in 1980, had connections with Epping. He was often accompanied by the late Bro. Bill Tunzi, father-in-law of our Secretary, Bro. Ash Long. A cordial invitation has been extended to members of Plenty Valley Lodge to visit or join us. We have emphasised that there is no need to have an Ivanhoe Grammar connection to be part of 584.
$10 adjustment ■ At the start of the financial year, we received notification from Grand Lodge of a $10 increase in annual ‘capitation’ fees. Our Treasurer, Wor. Bro. Neville Emerson, has tonight moved that a $10 increase be applied to 2014-15 dues to cover this increase.
Have you paid? ■ Have you paid your 2014-15 dues? Did you know that you can now pay in quarterly or half-yearly instalments if that suits you better? Dues notices have been sent. You can now transfer funds direct.
Travelling men ■ Our Lodge Education Officer, Wor. Bro. Rahim Samat, cannot be with us tonight. He is in Adelaide on business. ■ Bro. Simon Browning expects to be travelling extensively in Asia for work over the coming years. ■ Our Almoner, VWor. Bro. John Knorr, is on an extended tour of Europe.
Welcome David ■ We welcome David McGuinness who hopes to join us in the ‘South’ at tonight’s meeting. David has expressed an interest in joining Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge.

Ian Gould, who became a joining member of Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge earlier this year.
