Christmas dinner soon ■ The Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge 9th annual Christmas Roast Dinner will be hosted by the Holloway family on Sunday afternoon, November 24. Mary, Janis and Michael Holloway are extending an invitation to the Lodge family for this popular function. The event commences at approximately 11.30am at the Holloway home: 55 French Rd, Greenvale (178 K7). There is a special welcome to Lodge widows, friends and former members to attend this informal celebration. Starters: Nibbles and dips. Main Course: Roast beef and gravy, roast vegetables, cold chicken and salad. Desserts and cheese platters. ● Continued on Page 2

● Wor. Bro. Geoffrey Vardon ■ Our Lodge was represented yesterday (Wed.) at the funeral service for the late Moira Margaret Vardon, wife of 59 years of our Choirmaster, Wor. Bro. Geoffrey Vardon, and mother of Johanne, Noelle and Andrew. The service was held at the Swedish Church in St Georges Rd, Toorak.

● The late Peter Holloway ■ The Holloway family have accepted the Lodge’s invitation for the new bursary/scholarship to be named in honour of our late brother, C.T. ‘Peter’ Holloway. The Lodge last month passed a motion to provide funding to the School annually. The first cheque presentation to The Ridgeway Principal Gerry Foley will take place at the ‘Buckley Night’ to be held in February 2015. ● From Page One

Certificate presented

● Wor. Bro. Max Fraser receives a Certificate of Appreciation from Wor. Bro. Steve Cusack ■ Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge has received a Certificate of Appreciation for its donation of $250 towards the Cottages Of The Sea, the Jubilee Masters’ Group charity. A total of $14,401.50 has been raised in the Northern District No 116.

Unable to be here ■ Our Master, Wor. Bro. Max Fraser, is unable to be at the November meeting because of his attendance at a funeral service today (Thurs.) in Deniliquin, NSW. Our thanks to VWor. Bro. Wayne Smith for standing in, at late notice. Very much appreciated, Wayne.

We're very happy to have another beautiful daughter, and her big sister is over the moon and very much in love with her as are we all. Ruby is growing fast and doing very well. Final night for Yea lodge ■ Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge has had a long association with the Duke of Clarence Lodge No 173 over the decades. Ivanhoe Grammar School evacuated to Yea during WWII, and Beaufort House (Manor) became the IGS home. Wor. Bros. Fraser and Purcell, and Bro. Long made the journey to Yea on October 1 for the final meeting of the Lodge which, sadly, has handed in its warrant. A gathering of more than 60 brethren attended on the night.

A Lodge table? ■ Old Ivanhoe Grammarians President Peter Swain advises that a Centenary Dinner will be held in Buckley Hall on Saturday, March 21, a highlight of the OIG Centenary Weekend. Ticket price will be $85 per person. Tables will seat 10 people. Partners are most welcome to attend. Distinguished Old Boy (and Borther) Graham ‘Hacker’ Hawke (1944) will be one of the speakers. Hello from Heather ■ Heather Low, widow of the late RWor. Bro. Gordon Low, writes to Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge: “As a 93-year-old ‘Old Girl’ from Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School, I do appreciate being on your mailing list. “It is nice to read about people I’ve known in the past, friends of my brother (Ron Weaven) and son (Charles Low), to say nothing of mt husband Gordon’s contacts, even though not an Old Boy. “Please accept small donation towards post, etc.)

Lodge prize winner ■ Ivanhoe Grammar School Director of Development, Astrida Cooper, advises that the recipient of the Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge Prize for Service to the School is Elizabeth Andressen. Elizabeth is a 2014 Prefect, Captain of Drama, SRC representative and Cadet Under Officer. In addition to these responsibilities, Elizabeth was a member of the Secondaqry choir, Rock Band and Plenty Campus Orchestra. Elizabeth was also a member of the softball team of the season. “The School’s musical offerings have been excellent, the cadet unit remains strong, our many sporting teams have excelled and a large number of students have participated in service projects within Australia and overseas.”

Presentation to Geoffrey Davey ■ Tonight sees the presentation of a special award to RWor. Bro. Geoffrey Davey from the Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge. The award recognises his exemplary voluntary work over decades for the Ivalda Masonic Temple Trust, particularly as its Treasurer. Over the past year, the Lodge was also made presentations to former Trust Chairmen Wor. Bro. Eddie Hutchinson and Wor. Bro. Len Jinnette. RWor. Bro. Geoffrey Davey was initiated into Freemasonry in 1947. He was installed as Master in 1961, and again installed in August 2013. Tonight’s presentation is made by Bro. Ash Long, who has known Geoffrey for more than 40 years. Ash’s wife, Fleur, and Geoffrey’s late daughter, Jane, were friends at School.
