Mirvac develops

■ The Grand Master, MWor. Bro. Hillel Benedykt, welcomed a Mirvac representative to the December Quarterly Communication to explain the re-development on the East Melbourne site (formerly Dallas Brooks Centre) in Albert St. “The Eastbourne will become Melbourne’s next historic residential landmark,” says the website publicity. “The Eastbourne will feature generous one, two, three and four bedroom residences and a luxurious Penthouse.”

Reports tabled

■ After Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge successfully applies for grants for the Scholarship and Bikes projects, an acquittal report is lodged with Freemasons Foundation Victoria, including details of publicity obtained. The Lodge must apply by the end of August for any supporting funds for the 2017 scholarship.

Quote to consider

■ “It must be considered that there is nothing more difficult to carry out, nor more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to handle, than to initiate a new order of things. “For the reformer has enemies in all who profit by the old order and only lukewarm defenders in all those who profit by the new.” - Niccolo Machiavelli

Lodge Song

■ Bro. Milton Tsaktsiras suggests that we print the words of the Ivanhoe Grammar School Song so newer members can become more familiar with the words: We are proud to be members of Ivanhoe School, With its record that’s second to none, And whatever the contest let this be our rule; That no battle is lost till it’s won. For our colours, brown and white, We will strive with all our might, Till we win each fight, each hard-fought fight, For Ivanhoe, for Ivanhoe. Though the words of our motto in Latin are writ, Yet their meaning is easy to see. As we go through this life, we must all do our bit, For it’s ‘Faithful to Death’ we must be. For our colours, brown and white, We will strive with all our might, Till we win each fight, each hard-fought fight, For Ivanhoe, for Ivanhoe.

The War Cry Ego Yah, Ego Yah, Ego Whoppee-Gah, Terry Terry oppe-Gah, Orki, Orki, Yah, Yah, Yah Boom Jigger Jigger, Boom Jigger Jigger, Boom Jigger Jigger Jigger, Boom Boom Boom Here we, Here we, Here we go Ivanhoe Grammar School ‘Hoe ‘Hoe ‘Hoe

$8000 cheque

All in the family

■ Gerard Foley, Principal of Ivanhoe Grammar School, will be in attendance at the Buckley Night to receive an $8000 cheque for the Rev. Peter Holloway Ivanhoe Grammar School Masonic Lodge Scholarship. This is the second year of such a presentation, comprising $4000 of donations from Lodge members, and $4000 from the Freemasons Foundation Victoria. Gerard Foley is a good friend of Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge. He was commissioned as Principal at a ceremony held in November in St Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne, conducted by Archbishop Philip Freier.

● Gerard Foley, Principal, Ivanhoe Grammar School

● RWor. Bro. Geoffrey Davey ■ The proposing of the Toast To The School at the Buckley Night is a very personal matter for RWor. Bro. Geoffrey Davey. Geoffrey was an Ivanhoe Grammar School student under its founder, the Rev. Sydney Buckley. Geoffrey was later one of the Lodge’s first initiates, in 1947. Geoffrey was son-in-law of Harry Buckley, first Worshipful Master of Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge when it consecrated 70 years ago on July 2, 1946. Harry was brother of Sydney Buckley.

■ The State Member for Ivanhoe, Anthony Carbines, has sent a message of good wishes: “Thanks for the invite to the 70th anniversary celebrations for the Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge. “I enjoyed the opportunity to meet Lodge members and their families last year at a past event. “Unfortunately I will be unable to attend next week as Government MPs are having a couple of days away to ‘plan’ for the year ahead … I’m sure a big year is ahead for us all in Victoria.”

Jackie says hello

■ A number of our Ivanhoe Grammarians have made contact, after the Lodge sent our annual Christmas cards, with gift voucher enclosure. Jackie Taylor writes: “ Many thanks to the Ivanhoe Grammarians Lodge/ that is, members and yourself for the invitation to the Lodge's 70th anniversary ‘Buckley Night’ celebration on Thursday, February 4. “I do appreciate being regularly remembered by the Lodge and this very much includes the Christmas gift card, which again was somewhat overwhelming. “However please do pass on my sincere thanks. “Again I fear I must offer my apologies at being unable to attend the celebration on February 4 pleading distance and time of year. “I am as always keeping in touch with the happenings at Ivanhoe Grammar even more so this year as have a grandson, Archie (Greg's son) starting this week in year 7 and ofcourse will be following his progress closely. “He is the only one of three grandsons to go to Ivanhoe as Nick's two sons are at SHORE in Sydney, Mack in year 12 and Cameron year 9. “Both granddaughters, Chris's girls are at Genezanno, Isobel year 9 and Madeleine year 6. “Many years have certainly past since Graham was involved with Ivanhoe and the Lodge but memories are strong. “Trust all well with you and yours ... very best wishes for 2016 ... - Jackie Taylor
