Govt’s pipe dreams ■ State MLA Cindy McLeish has slammed a Labor Government proposal to reverse the North-South Pipeline, calling it another costly white elephant. "Labor's fascination with costly white elephant water projects is beyond the pale. Victorians pay for this and sadly we never see a drop of water delivered," Ms McLeish said. The Government report has found reversing the North-South Pipeline would cost $277m and require a new pipeline going either under or over the Yarra River. It also found there were no clear environmental benefits to reversing the pipeline and the cost of water in the Goulburn system would need to reach $1350/ML for the project to be

"Daniel Andrews and Labor should start showing some respect for the people in the Goulburn catchment." Ms McLeish said: "Minister for Water Lisa Neville should spend more time working with our community to overcome the problems with the Murray Darling Basin Plan rather than wasting time on pipe dreams."

A good samaritan in Melbourne picked up a set of car keys near Swan St, Richmond, with the Yea FNC membership tag No 102. The keys were located at the information desk at Richmond Railway Station. The owner of the set of keys was asked to contact the Club or railway authorities to regain possession.

The State Government is investing nearly $550,000 over five years for Primary Care Connect through the Family Violence Child Protection Partnership – a $17.5 million initiative. Sports Briefs Yea Golf Club
■ Peter Keast, who takes on the role of greens supervisor at Yea Golf Club, found them to be in perfect conditions on Saturday. Peter was heard to remark that "that was my best round ever" after completing the 18th. The day's event was a Stableford and Peter won the day with 39 points from his 22 handicap. A feature of his play was his pitching to the pin from about 30 metres. Trevor Connell had a return to form and was runner-up with 38 points. Johnathan Fisher had a complete form reversal. After winning the Club Award last week for the least good score he had an excellent 36 points this week to finish third. Gary Pollard was Nearest The Pinon the 2nd and Carl Maffei took home the Club Award. On Wednesday Neil Peterson had 38 Stableford points to be the daily winner from Gary Pollard on 37. Bill Dredge took out the NTP and the Club Award. Following the success of the recent ‘Nine and Dine’ there will be Friday evening golf again this week. Arrive to play at around 5pm and then stay for a barbecue after golf. There will be an Ambrose event and also an individual Stableford 9 holes. Come along and enjoy the course. - Gary Pollard
Under 14 cricket ■ Yea's Under 14 cricketers travelled to Nagambie on Saturday. The team welcomed back key batsmen John Turvey and Jordyn Beattie, but were without strike bowlers Ruby O'Dwyer and Monty Lawson. Skipper Abby Christie won the toss and batted. Opening batsmen Austen Ross and no 3 batsmen Reece Hargreaves were the unsung heroes of the innings, seeing off Nagambie's strong opening bowling combination. Austen and Reece's contribution to the innings was greatly appreciated by our middle order batsmen, well done guys. John Turvey was in blistering form hitting five fours and a six before retiring undefeated on 30. Riley Slevin also batted well retiring on 32. Max Hargreaves anchored the innings finishing 15 not out. Shot of the day was a majestic cover drive off the bat of Jordyn Beattie. The Tigers innings finished at 6/115 from 25 overs. Abby Christie and John Turvey had Nagambie's batsmen tied down early and were well backed up by first changers Leo HalfordMolinaro and Riley. Leo was first to strike to have Nagambie 1/ 24 after 8 overs. Unfortunately the Tigers were unable to defend their score despite some excellent efforts in the field. Nagambie passed Yea's total with six balls to spare in a tight and hard fought game of cricket. - Contributed

Kinglake to host Sun Tour
■ Kinglake will host stage four of Australia's oldest stage cycling race in 2017 with the 64th annual Jayco Herald Sun Tour's final day to be held locally on Sunday February 5. The 624.2km race will see British cyclist and 2016's defending Tour champion and three-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome launch his 2017 campaign with Team Sky at the event. The Kinglake stage consists of four laps totalling 31km with the start and finish being at the corner of Whittlesea-Kinglake Rd and Glenburn Rd, outside the Kinglake Hotel The route is Glenburn Road to the Melba Hwy then south along the Melba Hwy returning to Kinglake via the HealesvilleKinglake Rd. “The day should be a great event for the community and Kinglake with more than 10,000 visitors expected over the weekend," said Kinglake publican John Holmes. The 2017 race includes steep Kinglake Ranges terrain with the overall five-stage race distance growing by 85km to 624.2km. The race begins in Melbourne with a 2.1km prologue time-trial around Federation Square and Southbank on Feb 1.

New Years Eve ■ Dancers are reminded to keep New Year's Eve free for the grand annual ball of the Whittlesea Church of England, when a happy evening is promised for all.
Ruffy shearing ■ Shearing operations are nearly over for another twelve months. The clips are a lot lighter than last year but prices are better and may make up for the shortage. There is no doubt about top dressing being a marked success as both lambs and wool were of a much better quality than off the not top-dressed. A fall of rain would do a lot of good. ● The Columbian Kangaroo, Esteban Chaves, is the first big name to confirm for the start line of the 2017 Jayco Herald Sun Tour. Tough day for Tigers ■ A-Grade on Saturday saw Yea return to Avenel for the second week of their two day fixture. Avenel had put 188 on the board on day one. Yea resumed at 0/5 but was quickly on the back foot with the loss of some crucial early wickets. James Clavarino fought hard and made a dogged 17 opening the batting, however there was little else to cheer about for Yea, as only three batsmen made it to double figures, eventually being dismissed for 73 in the 50th over. One bright spot was a quick 10 not out to debutant Jack Christie. As Yea was more than 100 runs behind on the first inning Avenel had the option to enforce the followon, which they duly did. After losing both openers cheaply Kane Smith (21) and Nathan Beattie (16) put together a nice partnership as the Tigers attempted to stave off the possibility of an outright loss. Following those two, Ryan Akers and Matthew Lockhart made 14 apiece as Yea tried to bat out to the

close of play. A couple of late wickets made things interesting, But Yea managed to make it to the end of play with two wickets in hand to ensure they only suffered a first innings defeat. All in all a very disappointing day for the Tigers however they remain in the top four and will attempt to bounce back against Alexandra at home this coming weekend. - Andrew Chisholm ★ Yea B-Grade this week played against an impressive Pyalong side that sits on top of the ladder. Pyalong won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch that no one really knew how it would play. Pyalong made a strong start against a weakened Yea side. Yea got its first
breakthrough when the score was on 44 but Pyalong continued to make strong partnerships, Tom Butterworth and Craig Murphy bowled well as did Andrew Butterworth but it was J. Pryor from Pyalong's day as he batted fantastically and put his team in control finishing on 75 not out. Pyalong's innings came to a close on a big score of 7/208 after the Tigers bowled their 45 overs. Yea's innings started with a bang withTom Butterworth hitting the first ball of
the innings back over the bowlers head for 4 but when Tom fell for 7 in the second over Yea was facing a uphill battle. Mark Sharwood put on a 45 run partnership with Andrew Butterworth butMark fell for 18 trapped in front LBW. Andrew continued on his way but wickets fell around him. With Pyalong bowling very well, Yea found it hard to score. Andrew fell in the 18 over on 33 and Yea were in trouble. Charlie Jenkins found the rope and made a classy 15. Ethan Aldous provided some late entertainment for the crowd, pulling out all the shots including a reverse sweep and what he described as the "paddle scoop". But in was Pyalong's day with Yea being bowled out for 108. - Andrew Butterworth

Farm Houses of Australia is a premium boutique design and construction company, based on the Mornington Peninsula, and building anywhere in Victoria. We offer a bespoke, individual design and construction service where every element of your home is custom-designed to suit you and your land. Whether your style is American, Attic, Beach, Colonial, Federation, Heritage, Ranch, Victorian or Classic Australiana, we ensure that each home built by Farm Houses of Australia is of an award winning standard. This stunning and attractive home boasts all the external features one would expect in a traditional country dwelling. Finials and fenestrations adorn the dormers and gables, and timber balustrades with molded hand rail surround the Australian Iron bark decking and balconies. A 35 degree, high pitched roof gives the home stature and bearing, whilst the crisp color combination is both traditional and contemporary. A replacement for a home lost in the Black Saturday bush fires, the owner’s desire was to create a special home with an exterior to harmonious with their rural property and an interior design which was functional, energy efficient and comfortable. This has been achieved by fitting the home with the highest quality fixtures, including a glass fire-box wood heater which is a feature of the down stairs living area. The Energy efficiency of this heating is enhanced by the exposed flue on the upper level which radiates warmth into the bedrooms upstairs. Solar hot water and northerly facing living rooms increase the passive solar functionality. Spotted gum timber flooring downstairs is a feature of the home, as are the pitched and coffered ceilings to all upstairs rooms which create interesting ceiling planes and evoke the charm and ambiance of a by-gone era. “We found the team at Farmhouses of Australia to be helpful, thoughtful, and co-operative during all phases of design and construction. - David and Teresa, 'Kinglake'
The quintessential Australian Farm House, the Ferny Hill Merricks flawlessly combines the best of the new with the most desirable aspects of the traditional. A ranch style home set in a rural landscape and surrounded by extensive decks and verandahs, it is the epitome of luxurious country living. Designed for a young growing family, the needs of each member were incorporated into a house plan which functioned perfectly for the family 12 years ago, and continues to meet their needs today. With 5 bedrooms, and 4 separate living areas, the home is an entertainers dream. Each living area is cleverly situated to allow guests and family members to engage in separate activities yet remain connected, and areas not in use can be zoned off from the central living areas thus increasing energy efficiency.
