LOCAL EMAIL SCAM ■ Yea Police warn of an email scam letter that is being sent to local internet users. The emails suggest that the recipients have overdue fines for “negligent driving”. Immediate payment is requested by the email sender, with re-cipients asked to click on an email to transfer funds elec-tronically. “You have been issued with a traffic infringement,” the
email begins. A register or infringement notice is quoted, with a request of $109.52 or $103 to be paid. One notice says” The fine
will be sent by mail to your address However you can visualise it now, please click here.” Payment was requested within two days. Sgt Trevor Connell of Yea Police has received several complaints of the bogus emails from local people over the past week. Sgt Connell asked local people to be vigilant.
