Life is a cabaret, old chum Mystique
● Michael Boyd performs a breathtaking illusion with Carla Broadway in Mystique, at The Palms at Crown on July 4. ■ Acclaimed Australian illusionist Michael Boyd brings Mystique and some of the world’s best illusions to The Palms at Crown for two shows only on July 4. Michael’s show features impressive illusions, some designed and built by the same team that works alongside the famous David Copperfield, as well as jaw-dropping escapes, levitations, transformations, special effects and mind blowing disappearances.. Melbourne-born Michael’s magician grandfather taught him all about the world of magic, and by the age of 13 Michael joined the Young Magicians Magic School to hone his craft. Following high school, he hit the road performing three shows a day until eventually getting his big break on the TV show Pot Luck. With his career skyrocketing, Michael braved the TV reality world last year and entered Australia’s Got Talent. He says of the experience: “ It was the most exciting, terrifying and gratifying appearance of my life – it could have gone sour and I took a risk.” Turn To Page 49

Photo: Rob Blackburn ■ Circus Oz opens this week with its brand new show But Wait … There’s More at Birrarung Marr, playing from June 18-July 13. Season: June 18 –July 13 Duration: 2 hours (including 20 minute interval) Venue: Circus Oz Big Top, Birrarung Marr, Melbourne (between Federation Square and Batman Avenue) Tickets: $22 - $95.
