Adjutant Genera l’s

WELCOME LETTE R

WELCOME TO THE GREAT STATE OF ILLINOIS, and the Windy City. Chicago is known as the “City that Works” and we are honored to

roll up our sleeves and host the 136th General Conference and Exhibitio n. NGAUS is an organization that works. Through this conference, we will work to further our professional development, strengthen our

professional relationships and highlight our tremendous strategic and economic value to the nation. We know that uncertainty looms for the Guard-Nation in terms of

funding and force structure. What is certain is our continued and concentrated efforts through The National Guard Association of the United States; ensuring decision makers at every level of governm ent understand that the Guard is the best value for America. While sharing the Federal mission and fulfilling our promise daily to be ‘Always Ready—Always There’ for our country, our organization—lik e our membership—is diverse. Through our unique State Partnership Programs, our Youth ChalleNGe programs, specialty teams like Counter

Drug and Agri-buisiness Development, and our Defense Support to Civil Authorities capabilities, we continue to meet our Constitutional and State missions. The National Guard is more important today than ever

before in helping our neighbors, protecting our states, and defendin g our nation—every day. During your stay, I am confident you will find Chicago a multicultural

city embodying the values of America’s heartland. Chicago is a wealth of cultural, entertainment and dining attractions: with more than 200

theaters, nearly 200 art galleries, more than 7,300 restaurants and 26 miles of lakefront.

There is a lot of work to do and much to discover and celebrate. There is no better place for both. Welcome to Chicago— the Star of the Heartland.
