By Bicycle
There are designated bike trails throughout the Northwest Valley. Paved and unpaved multi-use trails are available, giving bicyclists easy access to retail and residential developments. View a map at www.youarehereaz.com
For those who live in the Valley, the Northwest has been a bit of an enigma. For years, the area has been seen as a sea of farming and agricultural communities just trying to keep up with the exploding growth happening to its neighbors to the east. But in recent years, the Northwest Valley has quietly experienced a surge of development and growth, securing some of the most enviable venues in the Valley. With the University of Phoenix Stadium, Jobing.com Arena, Westgate City Center, Peoria Sports Complex, Challenger Space Center and numerous upscale residential and retail developments calling the Northwest Valley home, the area has come alive with a unique mix of cultural, recreational, shopping and dining offerings that rival those of Phoenix and Scottsdale. However, no matter how much growth the area experiences, it still remains true to its small town heritage that has added that certain charm and cache to its appeal. Historic downtown Glendale is the perfect example of this, creating a perfect balance between history and growth.Visit downtown’s renowned antique district, filled with one-of-a-kind finds, or stop by one of the many unique boutiques housed in historic homes and bungalows. In this premier issue of You Are Here: Northwest Valley, you’ll discover the great things to see and do in this dynamic and everchanging area. From thrilling sports action, to blockbuster concerts and performances, to cultural offerings at a diverse array of museums, the Northwest Valley is the Valley’s best kept secret.

Fine Arts Northwest Valley steeped in creativity and culture QUICK TIPS Room to Bead
When we think of historical artifacts, dusty pots and cryptic treasures usually first come to mind. But for a truly unique look at our past, stop by the Bead Museum in Glendale to see beads from around the world, including a 15,000-year-old bead in its permanent display. 5754 W. Glenn Drive 623-931-2737
In an area that’s known more for its historic communities than its burgeoning art scene, the Northwest Valley showcases a dynamic mix of cultural offerings that rivals that of any metropolitan city. From the prominent Heard Museum West to the impressive West Valley Art Museum—and everything in between—the Northwest Valley is home to a number of arts and cultural venues. For stage performances, visit the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts. Home to Theater Works, the area’s preeminent community theater group, the center hosts live performances, classrooms and an intimate black box theater that serves as a collaborative outlet for writers, performers and designers. To get a glimpse into Arizona’s history, stop by Sahuaro Ranch Park Historic Area, a 17acre ranch that features 13 original buildings, rose garden, barnyard and historic orchards that show the days of early settlers.

At Peoria’s Challenger Space Center, the pursuit of space exploration is alive and helping educators teach science, technology, engineering and math skills needed to achieve this dream is what we do. From school field trips to guided tours, simulated NASA-like missions to Space Place for the tiniest of young minds, we inspire people of all ages to “dream” about the wonders of space and space travel.
