yet leisurely way to experience great art in Scottsdale? Then get your walking shoes on because the Scottsdale ArtWalk is in full swing. Known the world over as a mecca for art collectors, Scottsdale boasts more than 100 galleries ranging from contemporary to classic. In a place where great art can be found on almost every corner, there’s no better way to experience all the city has to offer than at the city’s weekly art walks. Hosted by the Scottsdale Gallery Association, these events are held Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Scottsdale Arts District in Old Town. During art walk, local galleries open their doors to art-seeking visitors looking to experience a wide array of artistic styles, ranging from modern and contemporary to Western and traditional. Get the party started at the “Party Before ArtWalk” music series, which showcases the Valley’s up-and-coming musical groups, including Watershade, the Mary Hoffman Duo and Sherry Finzer & Radiant Sky. In addition, special art walks are held throughout the year, such as the upcoming Summer Spectacular ArtWalk on July 8. Featuring music, art and prize-filled ice sculptures, this will be one “cool” way to spend a sultry Scottsdale evening.
Red Hot Grab a blanket and enjoy a concert under the stars at the Desert Sky Outdoor Series, hosted by the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. If you’re an avid golfer,
the best part of being in Scottsdale is the access you have to amazing golf courses at area resorts. With some of the most challenging and renowned courses in the country, Scottsdale is truly a golfer’s paradise. And with many of these courses located on or near the grounds of the city’s most luxurious resorts, locals and visitors alike can take advantage of exceptional play and world-class accommodations. In June, for instance, the Boulders Resort is offering its One for All summer special, which includes nightly accommodations, daily breakfast and lunch, and unlimited daily tee times at the Boulders Golf Club. At the Phoenician, treat yourself to the Masters Getaway Package, featuring deluxe accommodations, daily in-room breakfast and unlimited golf at the resort’s three (yes, three) nine-hole courses. When you’ve finished sinking your putt at the 18th hole, treat yourself to a soothing spa treatment. At the Willow Stream at the Fairmont Scottsdale, golfers can enjoy post-link pampering with the Havasupai Body Oasis, which includes a foot bath, massage and aromatherapy wrap, all done in the masculine comfort of the MVP Room, outfitted with plasma screen TVs, leather and wood décor.
Peak Performance This season, hit the links and show off your new skills courtesy of the Golf Academy program at the Boulders Resort and Golf Club. Train like a pro with such classes as the Quick Fix or the Complete Game Improvement packages, which include accommodations, golf cart and unlimited use of practice facilities. Hone your skills further with the Aquatic/Golf Conditioning

There’s something exciting
happening in the Scottsdale restaurant scene—and the locals are in on it. Everywhere you turn, a new eatery is popping up in Scottsdale. Look beyond the chain restaurants, however, and you’ll find establishments owned and operated by local chefs and restaurateurs dedicated to promoting local produce, ingredients and foods. Chef Aaron May is one such innovator who continues to have a pulse on Scottsdale dining. After closing Sol y Sombra, his popular tapas bar in DC Ranch, he’s gone on to open a number of restaurants that have established themselves as the places to see and be seen in and around Scottsdale, including Over Easy, The Lodge and Mabel Murphy’s. Another local chef making a big impression on the dining scene is Matt Carter, who co-owns Zinc Bistro, the popular French eatery at Kierland Commons, as well as The Mission, which serves modern Latin cuisine. Husband and wife team Craig and Kris DeMarco continue to make an impression with Arcadia diners, thanks to the success of such popular spots as La Grande Orange, Postino and the new Radio Café.
Shake It The burger craze is on in Scottsdale. Joining the mix is Zinburger at the Biltmore Fashion Park. The no-frills menu gets down to business with its offerings of burgers, served best with an eclectic mix of fries ranging from double truffle to zucchini. And because you can’t have a burger without an ice-cold shake, Zinburger offers a cool

the best bites in town. A wild night out in Scottsdale can sure build up an appetite. Thankfully, the city is filled with great places perfect for late-night noshing. If you’re in the mood for a little sushi, stop by Geisha A Go Go, where you can nibble on specialty rolls—such as the Flying Kamikaze made with unagi, smoked salmon, spicy tuna and crab mix—until midnight. Wash it down with a selection of infused sakes or specialty cocktails including the Hello Kitty made with Skyy Citrus, Japanese strawberry soda and fruit infused sake. For bites with European flair, pull up a seat at Kazimierz World Wine Bar. From cheese plates and fondue to antipasto platters and flatbreads, this award-winning wine bar serves up delicious nibbles that pair perfectly with a good glass of wine. If it’s comfort food you’re craving, you can’t go wrong at AZ88. Known for its innovative art and diverse crowd, this Scottsdale offers its full menu at the bar, including signature burgers, sandwiches and their famous waffle-cut fries, served with a healthy mix of grooves, ranging from electronica to neo-soul to vintage rock.

Albert Chase McArthur, former architectural student of Frank Lloyd Wright, joined with the master himself to create the Arizona Biltmore in the 1920s. Frank & Albert’s is designed around the philosophy of these sometimes dueling but always dedicated visionaries: Draw inspiration from the land, build on local elements, and engage the senses. Enjoy comfort food with a twist, hand-crafted cocktails and a familiar yet vibrant energy. Welcome to an oven, grill and creative den of healthy discussion and diversity, awareness and surprise.
