If your idea of a perfect date is a romantic dinner served on a cozy outdoor patio lit up with pretty twinkling lights, then Cibo is the place for you. Serving delicious Italian cuisine, complemented by an incredible wine list, may we suggest a re-enactment of the famous scene from Lady and the Tramp? Perhaps after a couple of glasses of Chianti…
Just in time for Phoenix’s perfect winter weather, Fez recently celebrated their fourth anniversary with the grand re-opening of their outdoor patio. Stop by, kick back and enjoy happy hour with beer and wine specials, signature margs and yummy small plates. The cool-factor turns up a notch with a DJ spinning the latest sounds for late-night events.
The latest addition to downtown’s dining scene, Hula’s is all about retro chic with its mid-century tiki bar vibe. A curious-butcool juxtaposition, diners can nosh on modern island cuisine while taking in views of the uptown skyline on the outdoor patio, complete with outdoor fire pit. It’s downtown’s version of an island paradise.

Nestled in the shadow of uptown’s Landmark Towers, Maizie’s is hip (not pretentious), comfortable (not stuffy) and so friendly, you’ll feel like you’re dining in your best friend’s kitchen. Watch the light rail go by as you dine al fresco on such favorites as juicy burgers, crispy fish ‘n chips, and tender short ribs.
Just north of Central and Camelback roads, Postino Central is one of those places that make you proud to be a Phoenician. While you immerse yourself in the deliciousness of the Autostrada panini, don’t forget to look around. The cool patio with indoor/ outdoor bar provides some of the best people watching in town.
Sure, chef-owner Aaron Chamberlin has a culinary resume that’ll make your mouth water. But it’s the unique redesign of this early 1950s Harold Ekman building—highlighted by a large, glass garage door that opens the front of the restaurant to a bar and patio outside—that puts the icing on the cake.

There’s just nothing like First Fridays this time of year. From Grand Avenue to Roosevelt Row, downtown comes alive with a creative energy fueled by innovative art, live entertainment and a dynamic crowd. Don’t miss it! Downtown Phoenix artlinkphoenix.com
If your idea of a night on the town involves strolling through art galleries taking in amazing art, or enjoying a stunning stage performance, downtown is the place for you. We don’t know about you, but there’s no other place we’d rather spend these cool winter nights than in downtown Phoenix. From the symphony and ballet, to galleries and art spaces, the city is filled with just the right places to be entertained. If live performances are your thing, check out downtown’s community theaters, which offer some of the best entertainment in the Valley. For the completely unexpected, catch “7 Minutes Under the Mistletoe” at Space 55. This “no-holds-barred variety show” features local actors giving seven-minute performances with a holiday theme. It’s sure to have you rolling down the aisles. At The Torch Theatre, improv is the order of the day as a number of acting troupes—such as Light Rail Pirates, Phoenix Neutrino Project and Mail Order Bride—get on stage and just let go. In the eternal words of Forrest Gump, “you never know what you’re gonna get.” 1 515 ARTS

It’s inevitable. The holidays are almost here and you’ll soon be faced with the eternal question: Grocery store gift card or macramé plant holder? Do yourself—and your loved ones—a favor by thinking outside of the gift box this year. Instead of showering them with the typical trappings of the holiday season, give them a unique trinket, bauble or art piece found at downtown’s hot new shopping district: Paisley Town. Located in the Lower Grand Avenue area, this oh-so hip destination has it all. Looking for funky urban fashions? Check your wardrobe at Wicked Wear, where you’ll find one-of-a-kind handmade clothing, soaps, crocheted goods, jewelry and original artwork. Is your coif in need of a makeover? Phoenicia Association
Phoenicia Association gets its name from the ancient Phoenician alphabet, one of the most influential ancient languages in history. Owners Jeff Mann and Kyle Simone chose the name for its recognition with locals. 821 N. 3rd St. 602-441-3385

Hear that? That rumbling is the sound of thousands of runners and walkers hitting the streets of downtown, all in pursuit of fame, glory and the opportunity to make a difference. As harsh winter weather falls on the majority of the country,Valley residents are pulling on their running shoes, taking a breath of fresh air and hitting the ground running in a number of downtown race events. The big one, of course, is the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n Roll Marathon, which returns to Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza in January. The 2009 race welcomed nearly 30,000 participants, who raced, walked and wheeled their way through downtown streets in this highly recognized event. Also in January is the 6th Annual Run to Remember, which will benefit families of officers being honored at National Police Week in May 2010. In February, the Scavenger Dash puts a fun and different spin on your typical race. Starting at Alice Cooper’stown, teams of 12 will travel by foot or public transport in a unique downtown scavenger hunt. A chase field

The race to end all races (well, at least in the Valley), the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n Roll Marathon returns to downtown Phoenix on Jan. 17, when thousands of participants will compete in a variety of races, including the 26.2-mile full marathon and the 13.1mile half marathon. Get ready to feel the burn.
Event Parking Arriving early, knowing that you’ll spend $10 - $15 on a space for your car and consenting to a bit of a walk will make parking in CenPho a delight - if that’s possible.

It used to be that last call at downtown Phoenix bars snuck up a bit too soon, especially if you rode the rail to your favorite nightspots. New weekend hours, however, let the fun continue well into the night. Whether you’re into the industrial dance club scene or just want to throw back a few brews with your best buds, there’s a downtown bar just for you. And, as any downtowner will tell you, the best way to enjoy the city’s best nightspots is by leaving the driving to someone else and taking a ride on the rail to your favorite bar, pub, dance club or lounge. Thankfully, METRO has extended rail service on Friday night/Saturday morning and Saturday night/Sunday morning until past 2 a.m. Plus, with a train rolling in every 20 minutes, that gives you a chance to hit as many spots along the route as possible. But what really sweetens the deal is the Train Tracks, a weekly foray into the Phoenix music scene that features live, uncut performances by local bands on the light rail. Acoustic performances are recorded live and broadcast online at the org’s Web site, giving fans the chance to comment on the best acts. Multitude of bars, designated driver, great music—what else can you ask for?
Rail Talk: Rail Ride Event With stops right on the doorstep of the US Airways Center, it just makes sense to ride the light rail to your next concert, performance or sports event. A new partnership between METRO, US Airways Center and the Phoenix Suns is giving event goers the ability to do just that…for free! When a ticket is purchased for a US Airways event, the light rail fare is free four hours before the event and for the rest of the day after. Now that’s what we call a smoking deal!

“Where shall we eat?” is no longer a question that baffles hungry diners when it comes to dining downtown. The dining scene is now overflowing with a full menu of choices that are, well, downright, tasty. It seems like it just happened overnight. What was once a veritable ghost town when it came to getting something palatable to eat, downtown has been transformed into an enviable dining destination filled with independent and locally owned restaurants. This resurgence can be found from downtown to uptown, at such places as Hula’s Modern Tiki, St. Francis and Sapna’s Café.Although distinctly different, each of these restaurants are an example of the energy and diversity downtown is experiencing. Not only attractive to diners, the area is becoming a destination of choice for awardwinning chefs who are embracing that independent spirit by opening new dining ventures guaranteed to put downtown on the culinary map. 1 Aiello’s

You’re enjoying the scene, you’re down with the drinks and the music is beginning to move you. Looks like it’s time to get out on the dance floor and do your thing. If you’re looking to get your dance on, downtown has a number of dance clubs that will get you moving. The place to see and be seen is Homme Lounge, a central Phoenix hotspot that has not one, but two dance floors to get your groove on, as well as a pumping sound system that will shake you to your core. Then there’s Sanctum, a Gothic-inspired nightclub complete with gargoyles, pagan artwork and dramatic chandeliers, creating the perfect setting for you to let the music take you to places you’ve never been before. If indie, British pop and ’80s new wave is your thing, check out the Ruby Room, an assuming little watering hole that hosts DJs and live bands.
