ABOUT BIP SXM The Bureau for Intellectual Property of Sint Maarten (BIP SXM) is an Independent Governing Body incorporated by ‘the National Ordinance of the Bureau for Intellectual Property Sint Maarten’ and falls under the political responsibility of the Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications.
Prior to 10-10-10 the Bureau for Intellectual Property Netherlands Antilles was established and situated on the
island of Curaçao. Given the expertise in Curacao the government of Sint Maarten decided for the Bureau for Intellectual Property Curaçao (BIP CUR) to (temporarily) execute the trademark registrations on behalf of Sint Maarten.
The project for the implementation of BIP SXM started in 2013. After different studies it was decided for BIP SXM
to work closely together with the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP). BOIP works with an advanced online registration system which enables faster and more
accurate registration. We also provide an online register which enables you to search for trademarks that are already registered.
As an independent and impartial administrator of the register, BIP SXM is allowed to provide information on all procedural aspects relating to registration of your trademark.
Country Sint Maarten is an autonomous equal partner in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and has her own jurisdiction for intellectual property rights.
