DECISION MAKERS BACK TO SCHOOL DAY
18TH OCTOBER 2017
WHAT IS BACK TO SCHOOL DAY? On the 18th October 2017, parliamentarians and decision makers across globe are remembering their own childhoods by visiting the schools or communities where they grew up, or the ones they now represent. During the week that marks the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we’ll be asking those who represent us to not forget the world’s 100 million most exploited and vulnerable children. Decision makers will hear stories from the children most affected by the continued injustice of child labour, violence and denial of education. They’ll learn about the progress we’ve made in building a more equal world when those in power have acted, and hear their role in helping to end the extreme marginalization of all children. They’ll join hands with young people in their school and community and pledge together to do all they can to end child labour, ensure education for all and eradicate violence against children.
“Children and youth are already rising up around the world against child labour, exploitation and for education. I call upon you all to add your strong voices to theirs. Don’t wait for somebody else to change the world” Kailash Satyarthi’s keynote address at the International Parliamentary Union 2017
WHAT WILL THE DAY ACHIEVE? With action taking place on every continent, and with thousands of schools participating, this truly global moment has unprecedented potential. By inviting decision makers to back to schools to hear the passion of the current students, this is a powerful opportunity to secure their personal support in building a world where every child is safe, free and educated. Throughout history, when local, national and global decision makers have extended their leadership for a cause, monumental change has been possible. It’s time this cause was creating a world where all the world’s children were protected from violence and learning in school not working to survive.
100 MILLION CAMPAIGN:
HOW CAN I JOIN IN?
Right now, in the 21st century, the world has over a 100 million forgotten young people. With no access to justice or resources, they face problems no young person should.
This is an open call to action and all young people, schools, communities and decision makers, in as many countries as possible, are encouraged to get involved.

Over 100 million children are denied the chance to go to school. Stealing their childhood and ruining their future. Over 100 million children are trapped in child labour. Many are child slaves. Over 100 million are living in conflict affected countries, at risk of violence in wars they had no part in creating.
The 100 Million campaign aims to support the largest youth to youth mobilisation in history to end this exploitation. Launched by Nobel Peace Prize Winner Kailash Satyarthi and inspired by former child labourers in India, the campaign will help globalise compassion and inspire sustained action by supporting and connecting young people across the world to stand together for the rights of all young people. Decision Makers Back to School Day will encourage thousands of politicians around the world to listen to young people and learn what they can do to change the lives of the world’s most marginalised children and end child labour, ensure education for all and eradicate violence against children. Lets ensure the voices of young people around the world are heard by those who represent them.
