About

Specialist Training

Medical Couriers roots go back to 1982 when we were known as the Harley Street Runners, a small private courier company supplying foot messengers, cycle and motorcycle couriers to the local private health community in central London. Since then Medical Couriers has gathered a wealth of experience and expertise in medical courier and logistics services. We are now able to offer our safe specialist services from 25 UK wide network locations. Medical Couriers is the largest same day courier provider to NHS and private health in England and Wales. Over 1,000 healthcare providers use our services daily.

Because our group services include the provision of paramedics and specialist technicians, our training set up is unique in the courier logistics industry. We have our own accredited training centres in Central London, Swansea and Warrington. All three facilities are HSE and IHCD approved and our courier training includes the following aspects:

Staff Medical Couriers recognises that it’s staff are the back bone of the organisation and ensures that recruitment processes attract the right “caring” individuals, that our vetting and security systems are 100%. Our staff have exceptional in-house training backed up by progressive and robust policy and procedures throughout the organisation. All of our riders and drivers are uniformed, wear photographic ID and are CRB checked.

n Safe Transportation of Blood Products & Diagnostic Specimens n Transport for Sterilisation Services n Manual Handling n GMP n Customer Services n Understanding Patient Confidentiality Couriers are also ADR trained and audited externally so that they are able to transport dangerous goods. As a part of this process, we are required by law to employ the services of a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGS4).

Sterile Service Delivery The continued growing demand for effective Sterile Service Delivery (SSD) is at the heart of the service that we provide. Based on our knowledge of the needs of sterile service professionals, we have created a company that can be trusted to transfer theatre and podiatry instruments on time and in a sterile and fully auditable manner. Effective Sterile Service Delivery relies on a chain of individuals from different departments and companies all following a clear set of procedures. If at any point this chain fails the cost both in terms of patient suffering and financial loss can be very high. When it comes to transportation, we aim to be the first choice of sterile service professionals.
