GraemeWilcox attended Glasgow School of Art 1989–93 graduating with a BA (Hons). For the past twelve years Medici Gallery has exhibited Graeme’s paintings: he has become one of the gallery’s leading figurative painters. His work, technically traditional, has a powerful contemporary feel, depicting tensions between animation and stillness. He is able to portray the transient, blurred image of one moving figure whilst simultaneously engaging in the precise representation of another.
Since graduating, Graeme has been working in the WASPS studios in the East End of Glasgow. He has collaborated on a number of multi-media projects with Mischief-la-basperformance group and others, culminating in projects at the Arches and Tramway in Glasgow and the Albany Theatre in London. He has also organised two large mural projects in collaboration with the East End Community Arts for Glasgow Health Board and devised and ran the “Face to Face” photography project in Glasgow. This Arts Council funded project culminated in a temporary public artwork at Glasgow’s East End Festival. His work is held in mainly private collections in the UK, USA and Canada and in public collections in Petrezovodsk, Russia and in Qatar.
In 2011 he completed a prestigious portrait commission for the newly opened Conway Hall in London. He has a large painting in the Royal Bank of Scotland HQ, Edinburgh and a portrait of the Joint Senior Partners in the offices of Turcan Connell, Edinburgh.
