The most exciting Harry Potter Summer yet! Our camp is packed with wizarding fun! The professor kicks off the camp by sorting the first years into one of four houses – Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin. From there, young wizards magically spend their days concocting potions, practicing spells, and earning house points. Get ready to have adventures within the forbidden forest, partake in a wizard chess tournament, and play Quidditch – as realistically as possible sans flying brooms! Course ID: SK 1079

Get ready as we jump into science and a whole lot of excitement! We’ll be busy this week with TONS of experiments that will blow your socks off. We’ll be trying some old favourites and testing out some new ones. And the best part is that you’ll be so busy having fun that you won’t even realize all the awesome stuff you’ll be learning about! So come explore science with us; this camp will aim to amaze you.

You’ve probably heard that if your drop a Mentos in a bottle of soda, a great explosion occurs! But is that really true and if so, why? Gear up and get ready to discover the truth behind many popular myths by using scientific inquiry. Campers will get to create an air dry clay sculpture, work with acrylic paints on canvas that they will stretch, practice watercolor and develop drawing skills with pencil, chalk pastels and other drawing mediums. Any campers that have art supplies are encouraged to bring their own brushes and drawing mediums. This course will provide a good sampling of what to expect in a high school art class. Drivers EDge Driver Training
HAPPY:
H ome Alone Preparedness Program for Youth This 3-day camp has been designed for Tweens and Teens who are reaching the age where staying home alone and taking on babysitting roles is a possibility. Make sure they are prepared with all the tools they need to stay safe! Students will receive 3 safety certificates by the end of this program.
1. Home Alone Learn all about the responsibilities that come with staying home alone! Upon completion of this program, each student will be able to establish a daily routine, understand the basics of first aid procedures, identify what responsibilities they have while being home alone, demonstrate what to do in case of an emergency and learn how and when to call 911. TUES AUG 1 - 9 AM – 12 PM
2. Basic Kitchen Safety and Basic Cooking Skills If you get hungry and mom and dad are not around, what do you do? In this course, we will go over basic kitchen safety topics, including safe handling of food to avoid germs, how to safely operate the stove and microwave, knife use and how to generally keep yourself safe when in the kitchen! We will also learn a few easy recipes that you can make on your own.
3. Babysitting Basics This course is designed for youth 11 years of age and older who want to look after infants and young children. Participants will learn basic skills, which will prepare them to deal with emergency situations, plus general principles in caring for infants and young children. Students MUST be at least 11 years old in order to attend the course and receive the certificate. Please bring a bag lunch. Instructor: St. John Ambulance WED AUG 2 – 9 AM – 4 PM
4. Emergency First Aid – Level A CPR In this one-day course, students will learn to recognize and provide interventions for lifethreatening emergencies until medical aid arrives. Topics include: CPR and choking for adults, shock and unconsciousness, severe bleeding, wound care, major medical conditions, and AED training and certification. Approved and Accredited. Class 5 driving instruction. Learning to drive or having a child learn to drive can be a stressful event. It doesn’t have to be! With innovative and interactive classroom instruction, students have fun while learning. Our mission statement is to provide training tailored to the individual in a safe and caring environment. The success of our teaching method is reflected by our high pass rates on the road test. Rest easy knowing Drivers EDge is government-approved and accredited by Alberta Transportation, with insurance discounts available. Drivers EDge is a member in good standing of the Medicine Hat Chamber of Commerce. Learning to drive is fun – sign up and see for yourself! What to Wear and Bring to Camp All children should wear comfortable clothes including shorts, t-shirt, and running shoes suitable for physical activity. For cool days, a sweatshirt. It is strongly recommended and enforced that children wear hats while outdoors to shade their heads from the sun and wear sunscreen. Snacks will not provided this year due to numerous food allergies and aversions – bring a snack and beverage daily.
Lunch Supervision All campers who are enrolled in a full day camps, can participate in a FREE supervised lunch period. If your camper is registered in a full day Continuing Studies camp, please call 403.362.1675 for further details about lunch time care. Campers will eat their lunches in the College Cafeteria, which is an air conditioned area. Campers must bring their own lunch. Lunch time transition and morning to afternoon camp transition are fully coordinated by camp staff.
Food Allergies We are a nut free camp, and we request that campers do not bring any foods that contain nuts, i.e. peanut butter or granola bars. If consuming nut products prior to arriving at camp, please wash hands diligently. If your child has any food allergies, we ask that you note them on your child’s registration form, and we will make every attempt to accommodate their needs.
Pick-up and Drop-off Drop-off for morning and full day programs will begin at 8:45 AM. Pick-up for morning programs will begin at 12:00 NOON. Dropoff for afternoon programs will begin at 12:45 PM. Pick-up for afternoon and full day programs is between 4:00 PM and 4:15 PM. All locations for each camp will be listed on the whiteboard at the entrance to the college. To avoid cancellation of courses, please register early.
