OKRUGLI STOL “IZAZOVI U OBRAZOVANJU DENTALNIH TEHNIČARA”
from Bilten RCK
U Srbiji poslije srednjeg četverogodišnjeg obrazovanja zubotehničari imaju mogućnost polaganja specijalističkog petog stupnja i trogodišnjeg studija u svome zanimanju, a za nastavak obrazovanja priliku imaju i učenici u Sloveniji.

ROUND TABLE “CHALLENGES IN THE EDUCATION OF DENTAL TECHNICIANS”
On the last day of the competition, April 25, a round table was held dealing with the topic of challenges in the education of dental technicians. The panellists of the round table were the representatives of participating schools Maja Filipovski (North Macedonia), Ezrema Boškailo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Miljka Vicković (Serbia), Bojan Erjavec (Slovenia), Snježana Pašalić (Croatia), Darko Mehun (Mehun Dental Laboratory, Varaždin, Croatia), Danijela Hajdinjak Prihić, DMD (Ladental Studio, Bjelovar, Croatia), Andreja Uroić Landekić (Vocational Education Department of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia,) and Nevenka Vranić, representative of the Croatian Chamber of Dental Medicine for the dental technology sector.
Following the presentation of the panellists, they talked about the education of dental technicians, and the representatives of the neighbouring countries introduced the event guests and students to the methods of education in their respective countries. In North Macedonia, after secondary dental school land passing the state matriculation examination, students have the option of enrolling in a three-year course in the profession. In Serbia, after a four-year secondary education, dental technicians have the option of taking a specialist fifth degree and a three-year study in their profession, and students in Slovenia can also continue their education. It is regrettable that of all the countries in the region, only dental technicians from Croatia do not have the possibility to pursue higher professional education in their own country.
New achievements in dental medicine require an understanding of production technology at a higher level of knowledge, as well as better skills and digital competence in the modern production of prosthetic restorations. Students who want to be educated at a higher level decide on some other higher education institution because they do not have the opportunity to continue their education in the profession, or they go to neighbouring countries where this is possible. Better education enables a better workforce, which leads to a more competitive economy.
Ms Danijela Hajdinjak Prihić, DMD, pointed out the importance of high-quality education of dental technicians to provide the patient with top-quality service in the production of dental prosthetic devices that meets the criteria of modern technology in aesthetic dental medicine and orthodontics. To be competitive on the market, every entrepreneur should strive for excellence and keep up with innovations in their work. Therefore, dental technicians need higher levels of knowledge to keep up with new scientific advancements in the field of dental medicine.
Mr Darko Mehun, dental laboratory owner, pointed to the development of new approaches to oral health care in dental medicine and the production of dental prostheses. It is important for the employer that the future employee, in addition to a set of skills, also has a desire for advancement and is open to teamwork. The future brings rapid and substantial changes in every profession, including dental technology. It should be important for schools to have the equipment and quality personnel to be able to provide employers with a quality workforce.
Ms Andreja Uroić Landekić, representative of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia, introduced the participants to the activities in the implementation of new professional curricula that will enable a better connection of theoretical content with work processes through project and research-based learning. The new approach to vocational education requires better cooperation between the teacher mentor and the mentor in the business organization. Teachers should be provided with continuous quality education and access to equipment for modern technological processes so that they can keep up with new developments in the profession. Verticality in education enables excellence and is necessary for the advancement of the profession.
Ms Nevenka Vranić said that the Chamber of Dental Medicine, in which there is also a class of dental technicians, protects the interests of the profession by issuing work licenses after passing a professional exam at the Ministry of Health and organizing lectures and courses for members so that they are continuously introduced to new areas of dental medicine. We are moving in the direction of enabling cooperation at all levels in this profession, and an education program has been developed that would be implemented at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Rijeka. Ms Snježana Pašalić pointed out that new technology requires greater knowledge and skills, so the development of the specialist fifth degree in the profession, which will be conducted at the Bjelovar Medical School’s Regional Centre of Competence, is set to contribute to the excellence and expertise of future dental technicians.
