Focus on Managing Change

Transformation – how do you manage the continuous disruption, governance, benefits realisation and delivery risks to ensure successful outcomes? To be successful and survive, let alone prosper, in today’s competitive environment organisations have to Change and Transform, with ever increasing pace in a predictable and controlled way to ensure customer service is protected, quality is maintained and staff remain engaged and motivated. Having the time to lift your head and consider the medium and long term future path for the organisation and/or your department is a tall order, particularly when you are already busy day to day and week to week looking after business as usual: "all those emails don’t just answer themselves". Whether your organisation is in the public sector or private sector you will have been impacted significantly over the last decade (at least !) by regulatory and compliance changes, amalgamations, competition, economic swings in the local and global economy, increasing expectations and demands for your services, the growth of e-commerce (e.g. the year on year growth of internet shopping no longer the frenzied queuing outside shops during traditional sales promotion periods), and digital services (e.g. dot GOV), and changes in Government funding to list only a few topical external factors.

Change. - Implementing finite initiatives which may or may not cut across organisational boundaries. The focus is on executing a well-defined shift in the way things work. It’s not easy, but we do know a lot more today about how to go about delivering successful change.

Merely investing in technology for example does not constitute transformation –challenging the accepted and comfortable norms is where real transformations begin.

We can design your architectural and governance forums with you, and introduce methodologies, techniques and best practices – which are tailored as appropriate for small, medium and larger organisations to provide sponsors, stakeholders and CEO management teams with effective risk based delivery approaches. Examples of appropriate approaches to the effective management of change are:

Waterfall method approach

Enterprise and Solution Architecture approaches

Agile method approaches

Scheduling (planning) using MS Project

Use of Project and programme management methods

Benchmarking – essential at the beginning to evidence the improvements

Negotiation metxxxhod (7 elements of negotiation)

Corporate and initiative risk management

When it comes to transformations creating the organisations vision, prioritising the initiatives, recognising and managing the risks, and managing the portfolio are all activities where we can provide high quality and experienced practitioner input and direction. Working with our experienced team we can engage with you at CEO level to help create a vision, prioritise initiatives, establish a corporate risk appetite and framework, and shape and manage the portfolio delivery.

Transformation - is another animal altogether. Unlike change management, it doesn’t focus on a few discrete, well-defined shifts, but rather on a portfolio of initiatives, which are interdependent or intersecting. More importantly, the overall goal of transformation is not just to execute a defined change — but to reinvent the organisation and discover a new or revised business model based on a vision for the future – and involves much higher risk.
