Roots Roundabout and Explore the World present
The Dhoad Gypsies from Rajasthan A wonderful riot of percussion, melody, colour and theatre from this celebrated Indian folk troupe. The Dhoad family ancestry is rooted in the original land of the gypsies of north west India, a land of wandering troubadours and musicians who went from town to town, entertaining princes and their courtiers. The Dhoad gypsies keep this ancestry alive, as the tabla, drums and castanets lay a vibrant percussive bed. On this the musicians create an atmosphere of musical enchantment. Leela Kumari dances the sublime gyrations of the Royal Cobra and Munshi, the masterful fakir, breathes fire and treads a path on the blades of swords and beds of nails. An unmissible whirlwind of traditional Indian folk music and theatre from the Dhoad Gypsies of Rajasthan. See and hear more: Visit www.youtube.com and type in the band name. Pappy’s Fun Club is Britain’s best new sketch troupe. At the 2007 Edinburgh Festival it earned an If.Comedy nomination for Best Show. This led to appearances on BBC3’s Comedy Shuffle, BBC Radio 1’s Switch and ITV’s Comedy Cuts. In 2008 the troupe starred in its own self-titled show on BBC Radio 4 and the half-hour special, Pappy’s Fun Club, on Channel 4. The quartet capped all this off with a Chortle award and a sell-out run at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe. “If you like your comedy light, frothy and supremely daft, these bright-eyed boys are experts...a show that pairs clever, witty sketches with brilliant clowning.” The Metro Tickets £10, Medway Comedy Club members £9

Medway Human Rights and Equality Council presents the Nuffield Theatre production: Peeler by Maggie Nevill Aisha waits behind 20 bolts and a stuck down letterbox for the killer she knows will inevitably find her. So why, then, when the meter man comes, does she invite him in, pay him to stay and ask him to help peel the onions? This play deals with the growing horror of honour-based violence in England, when a family demands the death of a child to atone for the shame she, or he, has supposedly brought upon them. Aisha does not feel ashamed and is determined to be heard before she dies. The meter man finds himself embroiled in a nightmare that he couldn’t have imagined when he walked up Aisha’s garden path. Tickets £4 WED, 17 JUN, 8PM

Fatima Spar and the Freedom Fries Sultry, sassy and seductive, Fatima Spar and her band of Freedom Fries could be classified as world music. But that feels like a lazy label that pales in comparison to the band’s passionate and playful blend of smoky jazz, Latin and Eastern European folk flavours. Hailing from Turkey, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Vienna, Fatima Spar and the Freedom Fries skilfully conjure an atmosphere of bohemian decadence. Fatima swings and writhes around double bass, drums, horns and accordion, armed with the spirit of jazz and a voice that will leave you breathless and begging for more. Booking information Box office hours The box office is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm or until 15 minutes after curtain up on performance nights. Please be patient when phoning the box office during busy periods (for example around show times) as calls are answered in strict rotation.
By credit/debit card Phone the box office after 10am and pay for your tickets by credit/debit card. Tickets can be posted to you on the same day for a 75p charge or kept at the box office for collection on the day.
Postal bookings When booking by post, please enclose a stamped addressed envelope so that tickets can be forwarded to you. Cheques should be made payable to Medway Council. Please print your name, address, daytime phone number and cheque card number on the reverse.
Reservations Tickets must be paid for in person, by phone, credit card or by post within three days of reservation or 30 minutes before curtain up, whichever is the sooner. Seats not paid for after this time will be released.
Exchange and resale of tickets Tickets should be considered as non-exchangeable and non-refundable and we advise patrons to check their tickets upon receipt. However when a show has more than one performance, tickets may be exchanged from one performance to another. Unwanted tickets may be left with the box office for resale. However, The Central and Brook theatres cannot guarantee their sale and will only offer them for resale once all of the theatre's own seats have been sold. There is an administration charge of £1 per ticket for each of these services.
Discounts The Brook Theatre’s box office reserves the right to introduce special offers and discounts in accordance with the hirer’s wishes without notice; these will not apply to tickets already purchased before the announcement. Availability of concessions will also vary according to the hirer’s wishes. Please contact The Brook Theatre box office for details. Information is correct at time of going to press, however this programme is subject to alteration without prior notice.
