There's nothing like seeing a live show: the anticipation, the atmosphere, the connection with the performer. The Central and Brook theatres provide an exciting programme of performances this season. Fri, 1 June, 7.30pm Mad Dogs & Englishmen bring Charles Dickens’ classic tale to the stage with a twist and a flourish in their new adaptation. Touring nationally as part of the Dickens’ bicentennial, this fast-paced and dynamic production is faithful to the book and captures all the hilarity and pathos of Dickens’ writing. With a cast of two this will be an evening of pure theatre. Tickets: £10, children and senior citizens £8

The Life & Times Of Stanley Crumpet by Chris Brake

Listen to a mix of Indian melodies, driving brass rhythms and traditional Rajasthani folk music with popular themes from Bollywood, jazz, funk, pop, reggae and even a touch of Hindustani classical music. All enhanced by their gypsy dancer, famous all over India for her cobra dance, and the fire-eating fakir who juggles with knives and walks barefoot on nails and broken glass. A dazzling display not to be missed.

At times it will be fascinating; occasionally it will be inaudible; but it will certainly be shambolic.

It’s Only A Game – Or Is It? By Owen Beesley The boys of Troy Town Triers battle the Tideway Terrors. Tickets: £6.50, concessions available.
