INTERVIEW CONTEST WINNERS FEATURED PHOTOS PORTFOLIO SUPPLEMENT

VICTORIA IVANOVA

I

have always loved paintings and photos. I have also always wanted to show my friends all the beautiful places that I had seen and all the things that had impressed me. Russians often say: “It is much better to see something once than to hear about it even 7 times”. Photography helps me to do this. And to express myself. Are there any photographers that have inspired you, or that you feel have really influenced your work? My favorite photographers are Chema Madoz, Vlad Artazov and Constantin Voronov. They make amazing conceptual photos and beautiful sill life pictures. They are absolutely great. I really love their way of creating a new world and telling a story. Almost all their photos inspire me. Many other photographers also inspire me, but these three are my absolute favorites. What subject is your favorite to shoot or inspires you more? I love making still life photos. Pears, chess figures, wooden pegs, paper boats and other objects help me to tell a story. And, of course, I enjoy making portraits of little children. How would you describe your style or vision for taking photos? I think that I can call my style “creative”. I try to make something unusual. What are some elements by which you judge a good photo? A photo should evoke emotions and tell a story. When you photograph, do you have a theme in mind? Yes, of course. I even make some sketches before making a photo.

Can you tell us about your editing process as well as what some of your favorite techniques are? To tell the truth, I do not have any favorite techniques in editing photos. I use Photoshop and Digital Photo Professional programs. I have a favorite technique in setting the light for still life photos. This technique is the light brush. I love working with the light brush in a dark studio. What kind of equipment do you use? What is your favorite walkaround lens? I use Canon. My favorite lens for still life photos and portraits is 50mm Âź. I also love 70-200 for animal photos and 17-40 for landscapes.

Is there anything else that you would like to add or share? I would like to wish everybody good luck and wonderful photos!

MATHIJS VAN DEN BOSCH

I

’m a photographer from Amsterdam. I bought my first DSLR camera 5 years ago and immediately got hooked, I enjoy all sorts of photography but I mostly shoot architecture and the occasional portrait. For me interesting light is important, if I can’t create it in camera I shoot so I can easily alter the light in Photoshop. I am drawn to black; not revealing everything makes an image more interesting to me. Using many near black tones also make the highlights really stand out, which is really nice if you want to draw the viewer’s eye to a specific part in the image.

MAJID FRIHA

m

y name is Majid Friha Born in 1987 from a small town named ‘’Jerada’’ in east of Morocco, I Began love photography when I was 15 years old, I began to watch the lives of photographers And I say to myself This most beautiful job in the world to be a photographer,, I fell in love with the black-and-white photography like style Dorothea Lange- Henri Cartier-Bresson- Sebastião Salgado - I like shooting cultures of peoples And style of people’s lives, I have endured a severe and painful experience since the age of 17; my father was not normal, he suffers from a mental illness and so is my brother. Things were becoming worse when my brother tempted to commit suicide for three consecutive occasions. These harsh experience have made so sceptic towards this dark and nasty side of the world we living in. When I retire in my tiny world I discover that pain is part of our living, a yen yan theory to be precise, and we have to overcome it if we aim to forge a solid personality. Hopefully, I discover the magical world of photography and especially black and white photography and its humanitarian connotation. It becomes a sort of evacuating bad and evil things and at the same time to express my feeling towards our changing world, and to reveal the real suffering of certain human beings. My brother state of mind and his sufferings do inspire me a lot and raise this hidden sixth sense of creating and which me to render a rifle looks like a pretty red rose by just a click on a shutter allow.

SAMANTA KRIVEC

M

y name is Samanta, I am a selftaught photographer from Rogaška Slatina – Slovenia. I began with photography quite unexpectedly five years ago, when I needed some escape from daily stress. I started to make photos of nature and was so happy when I looked my work on computer screen that I fell in love in photography - my passion was born. I had a large interest for photography and Photoshop, I learned a lot with help of books, tutorials and photo sites. I went daily out with my camera and made really many photos of everything per day. After some time I realized that I wanted more, I wanted go deeper. I started to create dramatic stories. My biggest inspiration were emotions and music. Soon my photos began to be published on some important photo sites, many photographers encouraged me (for what I am very grateful) ... all that and my passion, gave me the further motivation for my creativity. I don’t have a big philosophy about photography I just like to do it. I like every type, but I give priority to black & white, artistic and expressive photos, which don’t leave me empty. Trough photography I learned a lot about me and life. It is really a great experience which enriched my soul.
