5 tips for creating your outdoor paradise Creating a new outdoor living space is fun and exciting. You should enjoy the process. Here are five things to keep in mind to help your build go as smoothly as possible .
Seek professional help

The importance of hiring a professional designer can't be overstated. Without a plan to follow, the best installers won't do you much good. You want to have a professional design your site. They will take many things you may not have thought about into consideration before formulating your master plan. Be sure to tell your designer how you want your space to function, what features you need, and which ones you want. Always give your designer a budget. Nobody can plan a project without a budget. They work for you to get as many of your wants in the design at your budget. Even if you had a $4 million budget, you would want $5 million worth of stuff. It is human nature. Be upfront with your goals and budget. It will save everyone time and money. Remember: It is always cheaper to change your mind in the design stage.

Dare to be different

Nobody wants to be a guinea pig. And there are plenty of fine cookie cutter hardscape installations. But if you really want a chance at creating something truly remarkable, you have to be willing to try something new. Allow your designers and installers some creative freedom. You will get better results and everyone will be happier during and after the project. Also, don't be afraid to ask for something different, unexpected, or completely off the wall. These challenges and special features are what make for truly engaging and unforgettable outdoor spaces. Realize that some more artistic installations might be a bit more expensive, but your designer and installation crew will probably be more engaged in your project. Just be ready for your neighbors to envy your space. Everyone will be stopping by to see what you created.
Hire someone you trust

Hiring the right professional is above all the very most important aspect of any project. You will want to hire someone who is reputable, honest, and has plenty of references. Remember: you are seeking professionals for a reason. If three pros tell you something can't or shouldn't be done, there is probably a good reason. Sure, you can always find someone who will do exactly what you demand. But, you will be left dealing with the problems you were warned about. Be open to professional advise. An extra set of eyes is always helpful despite one's experience. Also, low quotes are tempting. But, ignore any quote that is drastically lower than all the others. There is a good chance the quote is toxic. Remember, be willing to wait for a job well done. Good installers are usually busy for a reason. Be leery of contractors that can start your job right away.

Be patient during construction
Add your personal touches
You met with several designers. You finalized your design. You met with many contractors and chose the one you trust. You had to change the placement of a few features due to drainage concerns and building codes. You have been on the waiting list since last fall. Then, the crew has finally arrived and began digging. Now your contractor claims he can't show up due to the rain. You have been waiting forever. As long as your contractor keeps in touch with you and doesn't dodge your calls, everything should be fine. No crew can work in poor site conditions— moreover predict when they will happen. Honestly, these are some of the realities of construction. Most jobs suffer some setbacks. Yes, your yard will be torn up for a small amount of time. But hang in there, once the job gets rolling, it will be finished soon.
A finished hardscape project is just the beginning. But that is the great part. You now have an extension of your home to make exactly how you want it. Hopefully, you had a softscape plan drawn or installed around your hardscapes. Maybe you love flowers and gardening and want to landscape yourself. Whatever your situation, having professionals install the trees and bushes (at least) is highly recommended. These larger more substantial plants are the backbone of a great landscape. Some may be necessary for soil retention, wind protection, or privacy. A professional will help you choose the right plants to achieve the look and feel you desire at a maintenece level you can live with. You don't want to purchase a plant that is the wrong size, in the wrong sunlight or soil, susceptible to diseases, or possibly invasive—yikes!
