Updates on Teachers in Sandals Fellowship

17 May 2013

FR BERNIE EVALUATES SPEAKERS Fr Bernie Thomas ofm, priest chaplain of the Auckland Catholic Tertiary Chaplaincy, attended Teaching Night on 16 May for the first time during his term. He was tasked to evaluate three speakers, namely Sis Isabella, Bro Trevor and Bro Mel. The three speakers obtained from Bro Bernie an average score of 9/10. Sis Isabella (Basic Speech 1 “I am”) who talked about herself and her aspirations, lives on the credo of making a difference in other’s lives. “Smiling to another person can make a difference,” she cited an example. For his part, Bro Trevor delivered Advance Speech 3 on the Core Values of Teachers in Sandals Fellowship. He told the audience that “Core Values are the heart of the fellowship. That’s the reason for the word “Corazon”, which means love.” He said that the core values of TSF stood for “God Loves U”, emphasizing the first letters of each of the core values statements, namely Godliness; Offering; Devotion; Love.; Originality; Victory over Sin; Evangelization; Stewardship; and Unity. Bro Mel delivered an Inspired Speech entitled, “Beautiful Girl”, narrating a story of a pretty and intelligent girl who was ashamed of her ugly mother that she didn’t invite her during the graduation. The moving story revolved around the girl who failed to appreciate the great sacrifices of her mother. In concluding his speech, Bro Mel asked the listeners to “Say “I love you” to your mother, if you haven’t done that as yet. Let us always honour our mother, the most beautiful gift of God to the children of the world.” Other contributors to the program were: Bro Anthony who delivered a funny anecdote about two priests from different congregations arguing on who pleased Jesus more; Sis Laura who chose two words (“Pentecost” and “Holy Spirit”) for Brieflynes with Bro Albert and Bro Toots expounding on these extemporaneously; Bro Sam who acted as quizmaster in BQQ; and Bro Jason steering the activity as Program Minister for a full hour. The next Teaching Night is on Thursday 30 May 6pm. This is the culminating activity of TSF for the first semester of 2013. Everyone is invited to join the fun and learning.
