Connecting with Students Public Institution of Education &Training (Specialized in Touristic Services) On Tuesday the 26th of June the 1st Public Institution of education and training in Heraklion, specialized in Touristic Services, scheduled in co-operation with the HR department a visit in Meeting Point Hellas Heraklion office. The substantial purpose of the visit was to inform the students about MPH as a DMC all over the country and also part of Meeting Point International group worldwide, within the interconnection of education with the tourist labor market. The program as originally planned, consisted of an overall company presentation, a short speech by the line managers regarding each department’s contribution to the work chain. Closing, an open discussion was carried out between the students and experienced MP Hellas executives, who were more than willing to answer questions and share their valuable experience within the Tourism sector. At the end of the program, students were given a tour around the premises experiencing the operation of each department in working conditions. In conclusion it was a “win - win” practice for both students and MP Hellas personnel. Students were experienced the function of a DMC and were given valuable information and advice for their future career and MPH personnel the opportunity to share ideas, experience and knowledge for educational purposes.

Sharing inspiring MP experiences

First MP Apprentice Story MP Pilot Apprenticeship Program – MPH Frontdesk Can you please explain about your career path in FTI and Apprenticeship Program in MPH (LABRANDA Isla Bonita)? I started my apprenticeship in FTI in September 2016. During the apprenticeship I got the chance to go through different departments like the Financial department, the Group Treasury and the Administration department. After my final exams at the beginning of July in 2018, I started to work in Group Treasury until I took my plane to Tenerife on the last day of July. From then on, I worked as a Front Office Agent at LABRANDA Isla Bonita in the South of Tenerife. I came back to Germany on the 16th of September and since the 1st of October I’m working in Group Treasury again.

Can you share the most inspiring story during your time in the MPH in Tenerife? On my first days at the Front Desk I just helped my colleagues or did paper work. As I’ve never worked with any hotel programs before and as I had no experience as a Front Desk Agent at all, I didn’t know anything about the work and I thought I won’t be able to help the staff a lot. But a few days later I already did my first Check In which also was in French and I felt very proud afterwards because I was already able to do all steps from the Check In and explain the hotel to foreign guests. After the first two weeks I had my own computer and my own row of guests with different demands and I was able to help almost all guests. I was so proud of my development and all the different things I learned about the hotel, the island, the different guest types and the processes.

First Apprenticeship Story MPH Pilot Apprentice ship Program – MPH Frontdesk Can you please share about your personal development during this time abroad? During my stay in Tenerife I had to cope with different situations I didn’t know from my life in Germany. I had to deal with several difficulties like getting my papers, being alone for many hours a day and making friends with new people, living in a foreign country with a language I wasn’t able to speak and organizing my completely different life over there. This experience caused a big development of my independence, selfconfidence and self-awareness. I also improved my English and French as I had to talk to guests from different countries and I even learned important Spanish vocabulary. On the first days I felt alone and uncertain. But as the days went by I got more and more confident and strong. I often went to a restaurant or to a cinema alone, went on Meeting Point trips and talked to different guests and inhabitants. When I came back, I was kind of a different person – in a very positive way. In one sentence how would you define your experience abroad?

The time in Tenerife was one of the most vulnerable parts of my entire life and when I had to fly home, I would have loved to stay longer. If I ever get the chance to do something like this again, I would take it without any overthinking – it was an amazing experience!
