a love poem to USU
Freshman year I walked past Old Main for the first time with bright eyes and my heart soaring.
I was ready (and maybe a bit too eager)for the college flings, curfewless nights, and adventures of a lifetime.
Senior year as I walk down the steps of Old Main for the last time I have to push everything down to keep my eyes from pouring.
Utah State University. You were more than I could’ve dreamed. You were more than the college flings, curfewless nights, and adventures of a life time-- though you were those things too.
You were more than your Instagramable sunsets, more than your hammock filled quad, more than your late-night library study sessions where we spent more time tweeting about endless hours spent studying than actually studying.
You were more than your icy winter chills as the snow that had finally stopped falling from the sky began to blow off the trees and into our eyes as we trekked across the freezing tundra of campus.
You were more than your summer heat and the mother of my Teva tan as I walked daily to, from, and across campus.
You were more than your football stadium filled with oddly dressed fans, more than your basketball stadium alive with cardboard cutouts of who is that again?
You were more than the place I learned 8 a.m. start times weren’t for me, more than the place I learned to embrace the Aggie shuttle and the CVTD.
You were more than the place I met a plethora of humans who changed me for the better, more than the place I realized I could be whoever and whatever I wanted to be.
You were more than the place I got my college degree- though let’s not forget that’s a PRETTY BIG one. Dear Utah State University, this is my love poem to you. And as I walk down these steps for the last time, I hope you know, you’ll forever hold a piece of my heart.
