Catalogue of new books by Flying Eye (Indie publisher). Books that encourage compassion, bravery and understanding. Really interesting to see the different ways books can be used to change the world.
Wonderful features explaining the story. Short profiles of illustrators offer an insight into their practice. Shows the power of children’s publishing. -> note to self for Adrian Mole. Change the world!

- Teaching kids about a hidden inner softness and ‘prickly’ exteriors - Has a ‘deeper allegorical undertone’ about kinship of souls and free will - Appropriate adorable character design that deals with a potentially much more serious subject matter
- Strong & clever composition that makes good use of the space - Movement - arm reaching around and pinching, swinging legs - Personality - facial expression - Book cover and title that could incite interest
- Ominous atmosphere - achieved with dense black negative space and anonymous staring at something we can’t see - correct atmosphere for this book - Harsh, contrasting shapes & colours. Bold black & yellow that captures attention of the viewer/reader
- Keeping it simple (again) - Hand-lettering - makes a difference from the everyday typefaces we see on our screens. More personal. Someone crafted it - comforting - what we want from a book
- Intricate - Avoids it being overpowering by using 2/3 colours & by keeping it balanced/symmetrical - Line of sight draws the eye to the center
- Symmetrical with buildings and clouds and central text makes it easily digestible for the eye - Consistent analogue textures and linework - Expressive of the era - architecture, costume etc
