UK Greetings Submission As a second year illustrator, I've started to refine my practice and flourish as a little creative bird. I chose UK Greetings because I was instantaneously drawn toward the opportunity and flexibility that the brief offered. I was inspired the moment I began to imagine people seeing my designs on the shelf. I've always been obsessed with stationery, cards and other paper products - so I felt like it was my calling to tackle this brief. Not only do I want to offer people a moment of serenity and a reminder of nature through my designs; I endeavour to give people the choice to comfort themselves or a dear friend with a gifted notebook, something that has been hand-rendered and dwelled-over. —————————————— Originally inspired by French Botanical Gardens, like Le Jardin de Boissonna, I was taken aback by the beauty of the natural world. This collection began with sketching out peonies and rosemary bushes in gardens in warmer climates than here. The name of this botanical collection - 'Dala' symbolises abundance and love, and it toys with the phonetically similar word 'Darling'. I want to remind people of the abundant love in this world, so to those whom wish to get lost for a while, this is for you. Escapism is a magical thing, and my designs are a way to retreat from the busy, digital world we're in & amongst. The delicate drawings take a step back in time to a period when nature was all we had. Not only this, but also to a time when we were more innocent and naive. The card design 'Welcome to the world' is reminiscent of a child so pure, they look up at you with a handful of leaves, and squashed petals that they've just rummaged around for. The act of giving. To love and feel loved is a core human value, through people sharing and giving these tactile offerings they can reconnect with each other and themselves. Perhaps from one young couple to another, or an elderly gentleman to his cherished wife, whom adores her garden.. There is nothing more crucial nowadays than delicate, tangible offerings.
